Has anyone seen this set yet? If so, any observations/recommendations?

There have been issues with the LCoS technology. Toshiba got out of the market for now. My suggestion would be not to buy LCoS until it's been out at least a year. If you want a TV now, look into DLP or LCD, or save a bunch of money and buy a CRT-based RPTV..

I saw their 55" at Tweeter. The picture was clear, not much screen door effect to speak of. The thing I didn't like about it was the very low contrast levels. They also had the 57" Toshiba LCoS (3 chip) and it looked 1000% better all the way around.

Was that the "old" Toshiba or the new one? I thought the new Toshibas were on hold indefinately.

It was the old one. They were trying to push it pretty hard to. The salesman said $4000 + and extra bulb and if that price wasn't good enough he wanted to deal some more. I wasn't interested in purchasing so I have no idea how much better the deal could have gotten.
