Hey all,

I just registered for the forums, and I recently got the Sony 30" LCD set. it's a gorgeous set, I haven't upgraded to HDTV yet, but I will. I have to say that I've never seen a clearer picture on a tv ever when playing dvd's or games. There's no "trail" or "ghosting" problems at all.

I had a quick question about the set, wondering if anyone could give me an answer. There is a "backlight" setting in the menu. The manual doesn't go into any detail on it at all. Does anyone know what the backlight really is? Is it combined with "brightness" maybe?

Some random info, I had initially purchased the Sony 32" plasma set, and was misinformed about burn issues. I had to fight, to bring the plasma back after a few weeks, but they caved finally for an exchange. The problem was that I had gotten used to the 32" size, cause my eyes aren't great. The place I got it from would only exchange it for the 30" set which they had in stock & charged me list price of $5500 (even though they sell it for $4999) or said I had to pay $6500 + tax for the new 32" lcd that was due to come out, that they had no info on. So, I bit the bullet, took the smaller screen size for a final sale.

I love this tv, but it's frustrating to see the 32" lcd just came out, and my eyes are missing the 2" s.

Can anyone think of the benefits of having a 2" smaller screen. I was thinking that the smaller the picture, the better detail will most likely be.

I wonder if I should sell the 30" on eBay or something, hmmmm, sorry I'm babbling, I'm sure many of you have felt the same way, there's always something better coming out, and I'm just putting salt in the wound, obsessing over it.

Thanks for reading if you did,
Joe

Joe:
I have had the Sony KLV30XBR900 for about four months. I do not have an answer to your question. I agree with your analysis of the PQ on this TV. After a good deal of "looking" at various stores, it is certainly the best picture that I saw by a wide margin. Frankly, at home, on both cable and sattelite, I see very little difference between an SD and HD picture on this Sony. I get a much better picture than my neighbors with a plasma. Obviously, it is smaller than a plasma and is expensive, but I would suggest that you just sit back, enjoy, and be confident that you have the best PQ currently available.

I have my 30 incher for about 4 months now and find it super!!!
Just got my hdtv box from COX (8 channels) and do find a difference - detail and sharpness. I have a very hot signal with no noise.
Have a friend who just got a 50 inch plasma (not Sony) (cox hd also) and I find either he has a lower s/n or his set just creates noise. Even on DVD playback, I see noise...
Am very happy with the Sony!
