I'm new on the site. I did a search and couldnt turn much up on the topic... and need some advise...

I'm thinking of getting a KF-60WE610 or the 60" XBR version which is much more. Any comments as to the "value" of the XBR?

Also I noticed some chatter about the reliability/defects of the Sonys. Some input here would also help.

Any others recommended Samsung? The sonys seem to have the best picture quality...

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help.

I bought the XBR800 because I'd like to believe the "guts" are a little better. I'm sure you'll get arguments either way.

I wouldn't have bought the XBR950 though because of the built in tuner. It's mostly unneeded and adds a lot to the price.

bro Sto..........I've got the 50" version of the set he has and its been incredible so far..........the first xbr I owned 20 years ago was a 27" set and it blew everything else away at the time.........xbr today still seems to be a cut above the rest of the Sony line :smokin:

I choose not to go to the XBR. Number one I did not need the tuner and number two I did not see any better PQ. I really don't fear that the components are less quality in the non XBR. I have always found SONY to be very high quality.

The only question seemed to be the bulb for awhile, but they seem to have solved that and it is covered under the first year warranty.

Very happy with my 60WE610. BTW I talked CC down to $3,200 so make sure you get a good deal. Didn't buy the Sony GW stand though. Very ugly and way overpriced. The XBR does have a nicer stand than the GW.

percy412,

I resently bought the 60"xbr over the we for the following reasons:

-The 60xbr's lamp is 120W versus the 60we which is 100W. This produces a brighter/clearer picture. In the show room the 70xbr (also with a 120W lamp) looked closer in picture quality to the 50we than the 60we. The smaller being better. There was no 60xbr at the time, but was advised the picture would look closer to the 42we than the 50we.
-I don't buy a 60" lcd rptv that often, and thought I'd get the best offered by Sony at the time.
-In my opinion, the aesthetics (outer appearence) of the xbr is much nicer than that of the we.

Best of luck in your purchase.

Hey summerfun,
Just called CC and they will not drop the price below $3999. How did you get the $3200 price? I live in Washington DC.

I got a nice disount just by plotting 2 stores against eachother. go to one see what they will give it to you at, get them to write it on a piece of paper, then go to the other show them the paper and ask if they will beat it. I save alot on my package.

Here in Canada the WE60 is $5999.99 and the stand is $999.99

I got the WE60 for $5199.99 and I got the stand for $399.99!

Keep in mind I had a friend on the inside doing his best to help me out. He told me that the salesman can drop the price atleast 7% before it affects his commission, so just walk into the store and play hardball. They want to make sure you walk out with the TV.

You won't get anywhere on the phone. Go to the store and deal with the manager. $3,999 is the list price. They run sales all time, you never should have to pay list price. I just made them an offer. I said I will take the TV at $3,200 today and they accepted the offer. I also bought a $299 stand for $225. Not the Sony stand.

My sister wanted a new HDTV as well. I took her to a different CC, because she lives in a different city and got her the same kind of deal. She wanted the 50" Panasonic LCD projection. They were asking $2,999. We offered to pay the full $2,999 if they threw in the matching stand ($299) and gave her the $300 rebate card they were offering. Net price $2,399 for the TV. They accepted.

We both also took advantage of the free 18 months no interest financeing.
