Hey all,

I noticed last night that my Sony KLV-30XBR900 LCD set has a dead white pixel in the middle/upper right-hand of the screen! I was soooo pissed! I paid $5000+ for this set and I have no idea when this happened. I've had it for roughly 1 month. Honestly you can't really see it when sitting in front of the set, but it's the fact that I know it's there that's making me crazy (I'm sure you can understand, spending that much especially). Is there anything that can be done to correct a dead pixel?

I also wanted to ask, does running a Direct View LCD set in a "torch" type mode (with high contrast or brightness) cause any issues for it. I have read much literature on this set and it pretty immune to "burn" problems and I'm wondering if I'm running the settings to high, and/or if it caused this dead pixel issue. Will this keep happening?

I'm going to call Sony on the issue, they're vague in the manual about it being covered. I'm also going to rent the Digital Video Essentials disc and calibrate my settings properly. I cannot deal with the store I bought it at, since this is a "final sale/ no return" item because I fought to exchange a plasma set for this set, so I know they'll be of no help.

I love this set and I want it to be 100% perfect, I'm sure you all feel the same way about your HDTV's...aaaargh!

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Joe

Dead pixels just happen, remember there are a lot of them on an LCD (millions). The settings on the TV shouldn't affect the pixel, but it's best to properly set up the TV anyway.

The warranty usually allows a certain number of dead pixels in certain areas of the screen (few in the center, more at the edges). One dead pixel will not get you warranty coverage.
