my sony 51wv5100 does not have ieee 1394 input, while I know hitachi has. how important is the ieee 1394 connection?

Firewire as an input for the TV is not that important. DVI, HDMI and component video do this just fine.

Firewire will be utilized to connect STBs to HD recording devices. Other than that, they don't have a lot of anticipated use.

STBs & HD Recorders will then have component video and/or DVI and/or HDMI to connect to the TV.

I believe the only Hitachis that have firewire, are the top-line ones or ones with built-in ATSC tuners.

Just proves Sony is stupid - they push 1394 (i.Link) in their VAIO PCs and Mini DV camcorders but don't build an HDTV with a firewire input...rrrrgh
