I biught a hdtv before dvi. Will I be able to hook up the jvc3000? It lists component out, but my current Directtv hd reciever doesnt have DVI...I'm new, so talk S..L..O..W.. thanks in advance
DVI cannot be used for recording (it's an uncompressed stream).
The JVC will require a firewire input from the Set Top Box (STB) you're using (that's the only way to record.).
If you're STB doesn't have firewire outputs, then you're out of luck. I don't think any of the Sat boxes have firewire, only OTA and some of the newer Cable STBs are scheduled to have them in a couple of months.
The JVC will output HD on the component video connections which you can connect to the TV.
I hope that was S L O W enough.

Thanks for the help, I have looked other places on this site, but your explaination helped most. (Plenty slow enough) Seems that the JVC will record OTA, and future cable boxes, but no sattelite recievers because of the output of the reciever.. Is there any use in searching for analog to DVI converter to input to the JVC?thanks again

If you are tied to Sat, you can wait for their HD DVR due out soon, or look into the following link - which is far from cheap...

My suggestion - wait a short while for the integrated Sat HD DVR.
