Bought KDF-70XBR950 and cannot decide on proper TV stand to go with it. I don't like Sony stand because it's only 15" high not to mention it's very expensive.

I am wondering if you can recommend an alternative contemporary TV stand for this TV.

Thanks

I have read that some people have purchased stands from IKEA for these LCD-based RPTVs and like them... They apparently fit quite well for the 50 & 60". Not sure about the 70"...

Some people prefer the Sony stands.

The Sony Stands come with a strap on the back of them that clips into the TV to prevent it from falling forward. and they also have securing locks that clip from the top of the stand to the bottom of the TV. I was told by the store that I purchased it from {Future Shop} That if I put the TV on a stand other than the one made for my Sony and it fell over then it is not covered by my extended warranty and I am out of a very expensive TV!!! If you have the Sony stand and the TV is setup properly and it falls just give them a call and they will bring me a new one. This is the reason why I think the Sony Stands are so expensive! But just talk to the sales clerk he WILL give you a deal. Here in Canada the Stand for the WE 60 inch is $999.99, I got it for $399.99 and I think it's worth it for the piece of mind....

Thanks 57U and Max.

Wow $399 that's a real good deal. Lowest I've seen for this TV stand is $999. I will see if Tweeter can give me break since I bought the TV from them.

I also baught the TV and pretty much my entire Home Theater all at once, but I got good deals on everything. My friend works at Future Shop and he told me that a salesman can deduct 8% of the price before it affects his commision. And after he does that just go to another place like best buy if they have the Stand and tell them the price tweeter was willing to give it to you at, there lowest price guarantee states they will beat any price by 10%, ask the sales clerk to write the price they quote you on a piece of paper because you will come back later and you dont want to go through it all again. he will do it for you because he wants the sale. Then instead of going back there you go back to tweeter {in my case Future Shop} and show them what best buy will give you on the piece a paper. if they also have the lowest price guarantee {in my case future shop does} they will also beat that price by a bit. So right off of the hop you are saving close to 30% if not more...

It's a bit of running around but well worth it to keep the extra couple of hundred bucks, if not more in your pocket.

Hope I could help.

MAX.

what your particular model looks like, but I didn't want to buy the stand that came with mine, so I built my own out of wood and covered it with black carpet - to my own dimensions and at a lot less expense

I thought the Sony stand was way to expensive and very ugly. However I think the XBR was a different stand and much nicer looking.

Here is the stand I choose for just $299. I have the sony 60", but you can see if it will fit your 70"

I use Intermetro wire shelving.. Each shelve is rated to 600# so there is no problem holding the TV.. I bought a laminiated board at home depot and the tv actually sits on it.. I have the tv strapped to shelf and I use a a shelf on the top for my sat box and center speaker.. It is low enough that it would also prevent the tv from tipping forward.. The wire shelves also give good airflow..

You can see my setup in the gallery.. Name is Bigbw.. Whole thing was less then $300.00

ps: I have the 60"

I have looked at that tv stand but "max load capacity" is only 117lbs. Otherwise I would have bought it. So I ended up buying z-line Z32261S for $220.

I need atleast 300lb capable stand since 70" wieghs 222lbs and I have a rec'er, DVD player, HD Sat at the minimum.

I am planning to follow max 's suggestion of strapping the TV to the stand and may be to the wall from tipping forward. I have 3 and 5 year old kids who run wildly at times.

I just couldn't fork $999 for sony stand not mention the fact that it's only 15" high.

Looks like a nice stand. I was afraid you might have a weight problem with the 70". My 60" just came in under the wire.

You may also use TV Lift Cabinet (http://www.importadvantage.com) . Because in the TV cabinet you can lift your TV according to your needs.

I gather the guy found a stand as the post was over 5 years ago. :)

What is the actual weigh of your TV?
To my mind TV stand expense is one time expense.
