There's been a bug in some older Philips HDTV sets, sometimes referred to as moire, ribcage, artifacting, rainbow reflection, or curved wavy lines. It seems to be caused by an internal reflection, being caused by vertical overscan.

We saw this on our 34PW9815, driving us crazy. It appeared in 480i and 480p, with natural motion turned on or off. Thankfully though, The bug was never visible using the HDTV inputs.
If you have this bug, a fix is easy by using the Philips service menus. Just be sure to WRITE DOWN THE ORIGINAL SETTINGS in the service menu before you start making changes.

So here goes:
1. Select an unused line input channel (such as "side").
2. Go into the picture menus and turn the brightness up (and turn the contrast down), making the unwanted curved lines as visible as possible.
3. Then, using the remote, push 062596 info+.
4. You're now in the service mode. You'll end up on some channel like 62. Press "1" on the remote, wait a moment, then push the "down channel" button on the remote a few times to get back to the unused channel you were just on. You should now easily see the curved lines in the background.
5. Now, using the remote, move the service menu puck down to "ALIGNMENTS", then go to the right to "GEO-NOR".
6. Go down to "V-AMPLITUDE". Move the slider to the left, observing the changes in the lines.
Moving from zero (the default
position on ours) to -5 made the width of the lines much smaller, to the point of being completely invisible at normal viewing distance.
7. To escape this service screen, press either the up or down arrow to make the other sliders reappear. Now you can press menu to escape.
(Edit: Or, tap the zero key twice to escape, saving changes.)
