I just baught my 50 GW at Ultimate Electronics, with the 15% the sent out to everyone, anyways got out the door for $3,040.00.... Im happy with the price, only thing is I wont be able to pick it up untill 3/10/04 :-(
Questions
1) Do you really need the Monster Power Center to provied "clean electricity" to my system?? Will a much cheaper Monster Serge Protector be fine??
2) I have read that you need/should get the you new set "Professionaly Calibrated"... Im not tottaly clear on what this entails & who does this work, Sony or Outside audio techs?? Also I live in the Dallas are so anyone know where/who does this & how much $$$$ I will have to loose??
3) And if there is anything else I should know that I might not be aware of let me know, I cant wait to get this bad boy hooked up:rockon:
1. No, unless you live in an area with frequent thunderstorms and erratic electricity. My TV is plugged into the wall.
2. See the FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV". Since you have a fixed pixel (LCD-based) TV, the convergence is a non-issue, but proper settings will bring out the best in your TV, so a setup DVD will help.
3. Read the other FAQs?

Dallas gets a fair amount of T-Storms (I have spent more then a few nights at DFW due to them) so some kind of protector is a good idea.. I have a good one I bought for less then $50.00 and I run my Sat fees through it. The monstor is overpriced IMO..
Re the calibration. I have a 60" I got about two weeks ago and I am having it done next week. Expect to pay between 3 and 500.00 to have it done.. Here is a link to a thread at AVSFORUM about tweaking the set.. There is a lot of info here, but you have to be willing to go into the service menu to do it.. Some say it is no problem and others have ruined their sets doing it..

One thing I noticed with my Monster AVS2000 Voltage Stabilizer is everytime my fridge in the theater turns on the voltage correction meter jumps to about 8.5 or 9! it usually is at 1 or 2. I use to get a small surge where my whole system would sort of flicker when the fridge turned on {sound and picture} but with the AVS2000 I dont get this anymore. So I also guess it depends on how power hungry your house is. And also if you can deal with a slight flicker or not. Also to anyone that might know, do you think before my AVS was hooked up the fridge may have been damaging my theater components?

Congrats! I get mine on 3/8. Welcome to the Forum and do check the FAQ, but still ask questions.
1. I will not be getting anything special for my system. My extended warranty covers me for the next 5 years. I've spent enough to still be worried. TV's going directly to the wall. I'll get a simple protector just to hook up all the A/V components but that's it. I read somewhere that some don't recommend one for our TV because of the shut off time that is longer. But that you have to research on your own.
2. Once again I have read that some have not been 100% happy with the ISF calibration of their GWIII. This could be because of the justification to spend so much for the results but that's a personal decision. The calibrations disks would be a good start.
3) Enjoy the TV, read up on the GWIII, and learn as you go. Knowledge is power. :rofl2:

Yeah, iv been looking around & I dont think im gonna spend 500!!! for some guy to mess with the settings....
But do you know where I can get callibration disks??? What type/brand is best??
It's never a good idea to put something like a fridge, A/C unit, motor, etc that draws a lot of power at startup on the same circuit as your Home Theatre. I have a dedicated line for my HT equipment from the circuit breaker board.
Max, I'd suggest you find another circuit to plug in your fridge if possible, or run a separate line for your HT at some point.

I don't know that I would worry too much about a calibration disk. I have the same TV in 60" and it looks fantastic right from the box. LCD does not need the convergence or other alignments that a CRT RPTV needs.
There are a few pre set setting choices in the main menu and you can use them to toggle through, but I don't think your going to need to do much.
Pirates of the Caribbean comes with a setup disk with the movie. I ran through it and everything was set just right already according to the disk. Brightness, contrast etc.
Welcome to the HDTV family.
57U, I have my fridge on the Washer and dryer side of my basement. How could I create a seperate line for my HT? Even when someone turns on the dishwasher upstairs I can always tell because my AVS2000 voltage correction meter will jump up slightly for a sec and then even everything out again. If I have everything in my Home Theater plugged into the AVS and it stabilizes the voltage for it, would I still need to worry about the fridge, washer and dryer, dishwasher, AC etc... Ever since I have had the AVS I have no more flickering in my HT and no slight sound loss in my speakers for a second, So I know the AVS is working at keeping them pertected, but what about the AVS, is it being hurt? I was under the impression it was only doing what it was built to do.

It sounds as though you may have an older house, or improper wiring, or a lack of amperage coming to your house.
I have 200 Amp service and appropriate wiring. As long as you're not on the same circuit, you should be able to start a large motor or A/C unit without affecting the other circuits (OK if it's a big draw, you may see a small effect, but a fridge on another circuit should not create a major effect).
If there is an effect, it's probably for one of the previously-mentioned reasons.
Your AVS is doing it's job, so your HT will be fine.
Thanks 57U I appreciate your help!

That's the million dollar question. If you ask ten people, you will get twelve answers.
IMO, just use quality cable, but I think monster is overpriced. The one place I did spend a little more was the speaker cable. Make sure you use a heavy gauge. It really does make difference to speakers.
If I were you, I would go to where you bought the TV and ask for a deal. I got my store to give me all my cable at half price when I bought the TV.
Mon$ter is typically good quality, however it's possible to buy equivalent or better quality for less money.
For speaker cable, I recommend 10 or 12 gauge 2-conductor "electrical" wire that you can buy from Home Depot or similar for about $25/100'.
See the FAQ on Cables & Connections.
