Anyone have Tivo on a cable provider?

I've read the stories of people who have Tivo, but they are connected either via OTA or Satellite (DirecTV). The cable providers, if they do provide a PVR unit, always supply their own (usually the Motorola or Scientific Altanta unit).

Does anybody successfully use a Tivo with a cable provider like Cox, Comcast or Time-Warner? Are you able to use it fully (as in using the Tivo service to get program guide info)? Can you use the cable line to get the info, or do you have a separate phone line or use the provider's cable modem (for series 2)?

I have had both versions (Series1&2) of Tivo yes you do have to have a phone line in them both to get the program info. And Yes it works just fine using Comcast or any other cable Co. But if you have Digital cable I had to use Comcast's receiver along with the Tivo, it worked but the long delay in changing channels can really annoy.

I also have both a series 1 & 2 Tivo. They work just fine but as Scott5626 says if you have a digital cable box then you take the output from the cable box and use it as input to the Tivo. You then use the Tivo to change channels on the cable box. As Scott says it's a bit slow but actually not bad considering what the Tivo can do. And if you have a cable modem after you initally use the phone line to set up the tivo you can then connect the tivo to the cable modem through a router and from then on it will get it's updates over the cable. The series 2 Tivo's will also work with the Motorloa DCT5100 HD cable box by using the AV outputs, however, the captured video is only std def. tv. Even on the High Def. channels.
