I am starting to think that DISH would have been a better choice to go with as far as HD content. When you have a DISH 6000 receiver with the 8VSB module or whatever it is to receive OTA do you still need a rooftop antenna? Or does it turn your dish into an OTA antenna? How well does it work. I hear all these things about DISH coming out with bigger and better things for HD and not much is being said by Direct TV. What do you guys think. From what I understand the DISH network has an HBO, Showtime, PPV, CBS. I think I would rather have Showtime and the CBS HD feed instead of HDNet. This is mostly because in my area the HD CBS channel downconverts to a 480p and I think CBS has by far more shows in true HD. So help me out people, what does everyone else think. I will tell you one thing, if it is true that DISH is coming out with a dual tuner HD receiver with a PVR my DirectTV stuff will be on Ebay! I can't stand my Panasonic HD STB it is brutal, it is slow as hell changing channels and going through the guide. It is torture if you don't know exactly what's on and what channel and I have to point the remote directly at the damn thing, and it still on;y picks up like 2/3 of the buttons I press. What a piece of junk!!

Red to receive OTA you will need an antenna. Do you watch a lot of HBO or Showtime now? Because that is what is offered in Hd as well as HDnet from Direct. You will get more OTA. Samsung makes a OTA only, no tie in Dish or Direct. See thisTitan tv (http://titantv.com)
to see what offered in your area.. ALSO YOU MUST QUALIFY FOR CBS HD not that many people do if you can get it over the air. How are you receivng your HD now with out an antenna? Just through direct? By next year they will have merged also.

NO, I have a rooftop antenna, I only get PBS(demo loop is the only true HD) I get NBC (nice to have Olympics, but that will soon be over) and I get my local CBS affiliate KPHO but they don't do ANYTHING in HD they just send everything in 480p it is freaking retarded. I can't get FOX or ABC or UPN because I am behind a mountain. I have DirecTV but they do not have Showtime in HD only one HBO channel 509 and HDNet 199. So it will be nice if we could ever get DirecTV or DISH to broadcast local channels with HD programming, I know that is probably way too far off in the future!

Has that merger been approved yet? I can see some issues that might hinder the merger. Monopoly?

I feel your pain and realize how lucky that here in Atlanta we get 3 Hd channels and the Fox cr*p. 480p

Not completely on the merge but it should be finalized opening more programming options. Since nearly everything is duplicated between the systems now. It could offer the abilty to offer more HD programming but I would not bet on it..of course seeing Iron Chef in Hd could be more than we could handle..picture live eels being sliced and diced.

Squeez-aaaaa, I love Iron Chef.

DTV has that 3rd satellite, Sat C. It is being used for a few local channels, but otherwise it is just sitting there. Throw some HD on that.

I'm so pissed, I LOVE COLLEGE BASKETBALL and CBS just announced that they are going to broadcast March Madness in HD! I can't get it because of the BS Station KPHO-TV5! I sent a letter to the station manager and his response was " I know you invested a lot in HD technology, but so have we. We have invested over 2 million to get the DTV station up. We will not be broadcasting in HD fo quite some time." What a joke I can't believe that CBS lets them get away with that. If you look on CBS website it tells all the affiliates that carry DTV and broadcast and by KPHO it's the only one with an asterisk and it says *This channel only available in 480p. THE ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY! WHAT A JOKE!
