Anybody has any experience with OFF THE AIR antenna hooked up to a Dish 811? With Terk tv44 (clip on dish) in particular. Is the cable coming from OTA going to 811 receiver, or uses the current dish cable? Please let me know... I have scheduled installation of 811 next week and cannot wait...

So many questions so little time..
No a seperate line from your antenna to the 811 will be needed.
Terks rarely work and clipons even less.

Try www.antennaweb.org for info about antennas and the stations in your area.
With out info about your location I can be of no further help.

BTW OTA for the 811 is very good. It does have a hard time with multipath, so a good antenna will be needed./

Thank you for your quick reply and information.

I live in Northern Virginia, miles from Washington D.C. I'd appreciate any information on local HDTV channels I can receive. Any suggestions for the type/brand of antenna I would need??

A small UHF yagi/bowtie would work great. You are very close to the towers with only a 3 degree spread. Even an indoor like the Zenith Silver Sensor should work great.

Hey Kev,

Work your magic with 85022. No major obstructions.

Thank you Kevin your information, I'll do as you say.

Meanwhile I did not quite understand the 88042 magic of the Hawk guy. Please explain...

85022 was in reference to another zip.
Your 1 station can be reached using a medium directional.
I would guess that when others come on line they will be at the same heading. I would not receomend any amp in this case. See
the links for www.antennadirect.com

Now I'm really confused...

When I put my address in at www.antennaweb.org I get these channels all within @ 20 miles

call sign channel network

KPHO-DT 5.1 CBS
KPNX-DT 12.1 NBC
KUTP-DT 45.1 UPN
KTVK-DT 3.1 IND
KTVW-DT 34.1 UNI
KPPX-DT 51.1 PAX
KSAZ-DT 10.1 FOX
KAET-DT 8.1 PBS
KASW-DT 61.1 WB
KTVP-DT 56 HTN
KNXV-DT 15.1 ABC

Just using a zip instead of an adress pulls up different info.
But the antennachoice still hold true:cool:

Is the availability of HD local channels through Dish, at all in the forseeable future?

It would be great to have HDTV loca channels available in Dish Network, and I wonder if somebody know anything about the perspectives. Meanwhile I have to use OTA antenna.

I have read very good review for Zenith Silver Sensor Indoor HDTV antenna, I'll probably go for that. AntennaWeb says my local digital channels are all in UHF and 7 to 8 miles away (yellow). My apt. is in 18th floor of 25 story building overlooking South. Any alternative to Silver Sensor?

HD locals from a satellite provider is a long way off. At least 5 years I would guess.
I would be happy if they offered the national feed to everyone without requiring a waiver.

Clip-on user here (Terk 44) *ducks*. It actually works for me. I'm pulling in all the stations now with only one pulling 77-78% and the rest in the mid-80's.

You could always try it and take it back if it doesn't work. I'm thinking since my local antenna locations are in a southern location, its helping the reception.

Some new subscribers to Dish can get their locals off the new Superdish. If you have nearby stations broadcasting HD then you'll get them off the dish.

Are all new Dish subscribers getting Superdish? Do you mean that they can get all local HDTV channels through this Superdish? More details please if you got some....

Incorrect Super Dish is a replacement for the 2 Dish set up needed by some subscribers who have there locals on 2 satellites. 1 Dish 3 sats instead of 2 dishes- 3 sats

Neither Dish nor Direct broadcast any locals in HD.

I actually bought Terk 44 but the dish installer said it wouldn't work so I never tried it. I didn't get the satisfaction of knowing that it wouldn't work, but to be with the mass I'll assume it wouldn't have, especially in Multipath City.

Unfortunetly I'm using the Terk 55 now, because it's the only antenna for indoors that will pick up my CBS on VHF.
