I noticed that woodman has posted a couple of times that he would buy from Sears. I was just curious why Sears and not Best Buy or Circuit City?

Personally I am not a fan of Best Buy, therefore I plan on buying my HDTV at CC.

Thanks

Because Sears sells the same brands that both BB&CC have.
The salesman do not pretend to know anything.
They will price match even your best internet price.
They have a liberal return policy.

Kevin already answered with some reasons, but he failed to emphasize THE most important reason:

Sears will guarantee your satisfaction with the purchase like no other retailer in the nation. They are unique in this regard, because they are the only remaining retailer that sells everything from clothing to power tools to jewelry to furniture to sporting goods to bedding to electronics to tires to you name it and they sell it. They have a vested interest in you - in keeping you a "happy camper", so that you'll come back to them to buy other stuff.

There are such things as buying a TV set and having that set sail through 5,6,7 years with nary a hiccup, belch, or fart. If you're lucky and get a set like that, it won't matter a bit where you bought it. If you're not so lucky and get a set that develops problems, it'll matter a great deal where you bought it - for the reason(s) cited above.

thanks for the great information!!!!!

I have never really bought from sears except for a refrigerator, washer & dryer. I guess I'll be buying a HDTV from them once I decide which one I want (but that is for another thread).

Thanks again.

Sears here in Montgomery, AL will not do online price match. They will only do local stores price match.

They did back in 2002 when I posted it. Unfortunately they do not now. BUT if you buy at the right time you can get incredible discounts -10% for using Sears card, 10% off sale and 0% percent financing can all be combined.
Good Luck

Sears current official policy is to only price match local retail competitors, but occasionally a salesman will still do an internet price match. Take a printout of internet prices and give it a try.

One thing to consider with Sears. A friend recently bought a HDTV from Sears and Sears was supposed to deliver it the next week (my friend specifically asked whether the TV was in stock and available before he bought -- he was told it was). Sears called the night before the scheduled delivery to say that they had not received the sets from the manufacturer and that the delivery would have to be delayed a month (and even then it would depend on the manufacturer's delivery). Turns out that Sears on floor sales personnel CANNOT tell whether a product is setting in the warehouse, is in transit, or is still at the manufacturer -- this according to both the store manager and Sears corporate. If timely delivery is important, you might want to try elsewhere.

I just bought mine from Sears. They will match any competitor with a Bricks and Mortar store. Internet price or in store price.
