Samsung dlp 60 inch

Hi guys,

I am thinking about getting a 60 inch Samsung DLP from Tweeters. Their price is $4299. I have DirectTV HD on 30 inch Samsung CRT, have been reading in the HD forum for about two months.
What do you think of the price?
Words of wisdom?

CC has the HLN617W, which is probably what you're talking about for $4499 with free delivery, AND a $400 Merchandise card. If you think you'll ever spend $400 at CC, that would be a good deal for you!

Unless you’re hung up on the DLP, The Sony LCD 60" is on sale at CC for $3,599 with free delivery and 12 month free financing.

That’s the TV I have and couldn't be happier.

I agree with summerfun,

Ifound the Sony LCD had a much better picture and I could not be happier with my television. And if you can get it for a cheaper price than the DLP I would definitly buy the Sony.

You guys seem to love that 60 inch wega! I have thought about the Sony many times. Whenever I compare the LCDs to the DLPs, the DLPs seem to have the LCDs beat in the black level and the detail in the darker shades. Is there something I am missing? How do you have yours setup that it can beat the DLP? To be honest I haven't seen the LCD beat the DLP. I guess I have to go look some more.
Any pro DLP guys out there? I am seriously questioning the DLP after these replies.

The only think I can tell you about the DLP is that CC had their DLP and the Sony LCD side by side and I thought the pictures looked exactly the same. If anything, the LCD looked a fraction better, but unless you buy both and have them sitting side by side in your house, you would never remember the difference it was so slight.

I just felt safer with the LCD technology. It seems a little more stable.

I guess it all depends where the TV's are setup and who sets them up. At the store that I baught my TV from the LCD's won the better picture contest hands down. I would definitly go with the LCD Sony because the picture is amazing, but note that this is only my opinion based on what I noticed when I purchased my TV.

when i bought my 61" sam. dlp, they had it set up next to the exact Sony LCD TV that was described above.... and i went with the DLP because, like you said, the black levels seemed better and the contrast just seemed superior..... honestly though, i'm sure you cant go wrong either way.... Sony makes great products, but, as your first instincts told you..... i'd just go with what YOU like, and you did say that you liked the DLP more than the LCD.... when you start to compare DLP and LCD at that size, differences are slight, but important .. because its those differences that I got a DLP over an LCD, and why max got a LCD over DLP .... everybody's tastes are different..... by the way, that $400 can be used towards the TV if you talk to the manager at CC, they can usually give you a small, but worthwhile deal....remember, if you had your heart set on a DLP, and the differences are slight, but noticeable, would you kick yourself if you bought an LCD later on and went against your initial feeling ..... i did that once, i still b**** about it ..... go with what fits you buddy .... you'll be happy either way

I bought the 50" Samsung DLP from Plass. They beat out CC, ABT,Tweeter & Best Buy. Plass has several stores in the Chicago Land area. Know your lowest price and see what Plass can do for you. I live by Midway and purchased mine at the Oaklawn store. No regrets as I love my Samusung HDTV.

Got It! I don't know if I will ever stop wondering if I should have picked the Sony instead but, it looks great! I used the CC $400 to my advantage at Tweeters. I probably didn't get the absolute lowest price I could have. I liked the service at Tweeters and feel comfortable with the price I paid for the TV and the stand.
I could only get my Xbox to work when I plugged it into the 1 component video for 480p. I have set the Xbox for 480 and 720p but I can't get a picture when plugged into the component video marked 720p and 1080i. Now that I think about it I didn't switch my DTV receiver to 720p, it's still on 1080i and seems to be working fine.
So far so good. Thanks for all the advice. I feel like I was able to think it through with the best results thanks to everyones help.
