HI guys!

I need some suggestions from you: I'm moving to Canada in a month and since I don`t have a TV I'll need to buy one. So I'm thinking about buying an LCD TV. At least 23".

I saw at the mall (DELL BOOT) the W3000 (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/lcd_w3000?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs)
Does anybody knows anything about this TV?

The response time on it is 25ms and the videos I saw at the mall were outstanding! I couldn't believe my eyes! Really! I'm not a fan of DELL at all! BUt this time was WOW.

Anyway......is there any others LCD TV that are more recommended for HDTV, DVD, Normal Cable and PC viewing??

I can`t buy a CRT since the house will be very small and for the same reason not a plasma since its too big!

Thanks a lot

You might shop around a little. This Sharp is less expensive and has a much better contrast ratio.

Sharp LC-30HV4U 30" LCD Flat-Panel HD-Ready TV

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009NFEQ/ref=e_de_a_td/104-0712111-1826338?v=glance&s=electronics&vi=tech-data

I'm no expert on LCD panels, just a suggestion. The Sharp was the first LCD that came up in the search, just put '30" LCD' in your favorite search engine.

will it be enough?

That's about a good as it gets for LCD and 'most' DLP, front projector or RPTV. HDTV is either 720p or 1080i and the debate as to which is better rages on still. See the FAQs for more on that subject.

LCD, Plasma and DLP are fixed pixel displays and 720p is their native display mode. There are DLPs that do 1080p but that is a price range we are not discussing here.

You can refine the search to 'LCD TV' for more hits.

My opinion of course, wait 'till more of the regulars are on for additional opinions,

once again thanks for you inputs! :) I'll wait for more suggestions and I'm going to read about the 720p or 1080i :)

Thanks!

On fixed pixel displays there is no 1080i, all signals are converted to the native resolution. I believe that most Flat LCDs are around 720P (perhaps 768P for example). Plasmas can be 480P, 768P, 1024P.

I just bought the sharp LC-30HV4U 30" LCD ..... and i'm not saying it does or doesnt but, when i put a 1080i signal through it, the display tells me that it is displaying 1080i .. it actually has a small box in the upper right corner that tells you the input resolution... and when i plugged a 1080i game in there, it told me it was showing 1080i, it does the same for my xbox... when it turns on it first says 480i, then switches to 480p when Splinter Cell starts up ...... so, not sure how to interpret that other than it displays 1080i ...... unless the display is lying to me ..... but perhaps it tells me the input signal, then automatically coverts to 720p ..... not sure, couldnt read anything about it in the manual ... anyways, this TV is awesome, bought it for 2.5K and is just fantastic ......

No, and No........ on SD the PQ is really good .... on HD, its amazing ...... i was looking at many, many LCD's before i bought this one, and out of 20 or 30, Sharp got the best reviews on average than any other LCD ..... including Sony..... which i was looking at but decided against it because of the $$$ mostly... PQ was the same...... anyways, if you want to know anything else about it, let me know

Sulo28 I thank you once more.
One more information if I may ask: Does it have DVI for PC? Did you try it with a PC?

Look at this one here!!!

first one of the list!

The sharp LC-30HV4U has a fixed pixel display of 768 x 1280. This means that all incoming signals get converted to 768P. The "display" mentioned by sulo28 is showing the incoming signal, not what's being displayed.

http://www.activelight.com/products/ProductDetails.asp?chPartnumber=sha-LC30HV4U&MFR=Sharp&X=73

Any fixed pixel display has no alternative but to show any incoming signal at the TV's native resolution. The TV simply has no choice.

yep..I see. thanks for that.

Did you get a chance to take a look at the link I provided? What do you thinkg of the Sceptre 30" LCD? 600:1 contrast with 16ms response time! 1799$!!!

yes it does, and it looks just like HD .... it has both DVI inputs and PC inputs ..... see, all the connections are put through the AVS system, which is a separate unit, but allows you to put the LCD on the wall without unnecessary cable clutter ..... very handy ... anyways ... i'd be a bit apprehensive to buy a no name brand, especially if your going to drop a 1K or more.... thats another reason i went with sharp... they've been making LCD tvs for a long time and they are proven... if your going to spend the dough, might as well spend alittle extra for a dependable product.... thats just my 2 cents...

I have the W3000. It is good for the price point. I agree that the Sharp gives better quality, but is more expensive -- but the prices have come down.

Two things: the Dell W3000 is 1280 x 768 which means you're getting a 15:9 aspect ratio, not 16:9. You're losing about 1/16 of the horizontal picture, but this is not major unless you're picky. And the DVI-D port is not HDMI compatible. If you have an HD cable set-top box, you have to use the analog Component inputs.

Essentially, it is an LG set with the Dell name. The remote control gave it away (it looks the same as an LG one).
