I know its not a TV or widescreen, but I love my Princeton Graphics SENergy 981 (http://www.princetongraphics.com/product_sen981.htm) monitor. Amaizing picture quality. My 19" was $899 from Insight (http://www.insight.com/site/product/detail/index.cfm?item_number=SENERGY%20981)
If you are looking for one with a TV tuner and widescreen, you will be hard pressed to find a good one for under $500. What exactly will you be using it for? College dorm? Monitor and TV? Help us out a little more. Do you want TV tuner built in or just DVI/VGA and Component Video Inputs?
