Ok, I'm a Satellite Virgin, so please be gentle...

Any reason to NOT pick VOOM over Direct TV or Dish? Seems like the best deal with the least up-front cost and commitment.

Voom does not yet have some of the channels that are available on Dish/Direct. Be sure you look at the channel selection carefully.

The most-referenced missing channel(s) from VOOM are the ESPN suite, including ESPN-HD. Once they get that, then the other issue are the network HD feeds, which are dependent on an antenna. I understand that DirectTV is showing network HD channels from NY or LA so you get those. I need PBSHD and I'm not sure of that.

I have Comcast, which is now somewhat poor in HD channels. However, if I would go to HD I think I would choose a combination of limited Comcast service (to get the broadband discount, locals and INHD1&2) and VOOM. Although somewhat expensive that would be the best coverage. Now I'm just hoping that Comcast starts adding HD channels again as they did last year, when from August to December they added 7 (ESPNHD, INHD1&2,Starz,MAX,PBS,CBS), and none since.

I don't think you get HD from DirecTV or Dish other than ESPN, HBO, Showtime, Starz... no networks - you need an antenna for that.

You can get CBS via D* in an O&O broadcast area (Philly for one).

Can you get CBS HD from the satellite, or only CBS digital?
