Question Do I have a case for going progressive?

I just bought a new JVC 56" I'ART and have played Behind Enemy Lines and Saving Private Ryan on it using my dvd player thats not progressive.

What ive noticed is that the picture quality is good and all, but if I really pay attention to the screen I notice a lot of "static-like" activity... Like if I stare at the back of Tom Hank's uniform I can see little dots appearing and dissapering real fast... its not smooth like i expected it would look...

Is this what all the hoopla is about with progressive DVD? or is this static stuff unavoidable on large hdtv's like mine?
