Ignorant salespeople

One thing I found while hitting each of the local retailers several times during the last year is that if you do any research online, even if it is limited to the manufacturers' sites, you will know more than many of the salespeople who will try to "assist" you. Sheesh! I had one guy at Bernie's insist that burn in only occurred on projection tvs and that regular tube sets never suffer from burn in.

I loved looking at the tvs, but found dealing with the salespeople almost useless, with one or two exceptions.

In the salesperson's defense, Without having a computer right in front of you 24/7, how could any one person possibly be expected to remember everything about every product the store carries when everything (specs included) is being constantly changed???

I only spoke to a salesperson when I was ready to buy....never consulted with any during the decision process.

Though I've overheard a few during before and after my purchase.

The other day I was in Best Buy....the sales person was talking rather loudly about some TV to a couple....but when I turned the corner....he suddenly became quiet and seemed nervous that I was there. I wasn't even paying attention to what he was spouting off about. So, I don't know he did that.

OTOH, I was kind of impressed that the salesperson that I bought my TV seemed to actually know something about it and had the right answers....but he did say it was one of their best selling models.

Splicer, not knowing that tube tvs experience burn in, or lying about it because it was an obvious concern of mine that was keeping me from deciding what to buy, is not due to not being familar with hundreds of products.

It was a legitimate question and the sales person should know that. Don't be overly impressed by critical answers in this thread, your post was quite appropriate.
