So I had a non talented Tech come out from Rogers Cable to bring and hook up an HD 3250 box for my IArt AV-36P902 Tv. The order was written to bring a DVI cable as this box and my set are DVI capable. He didn't bring the cable, was rude and quickly abandoned me with the comment that I need to switch my inputs around.

My main problem was (without regard to the DVI) that the component hookup provided a good HD picture in 16:9 format but most of the station programming remains digital not High Def. My old digital box the 3200 would leave the picture in 4:3 format fullscreen. This new box would take anything not High Def. (read almost everything) and bar the sides while leaving the top letterboxed. In other words an unacceptable little square in the middle of my TV.
My question to the Tech was can we use a second input, say s-Video, to display regular digital as 4:3 and the component video as HD 16:9? At this point he left.
The only place I could get a DVI cable was $85 at Future Shop. Having no guarentee that I would be able to resolve the 4:3 issue I declined. Rogers got the box back.
Now, my Tv does a great job with regular digital 4:3, but I'd like to use the full capability of the TV at some point.
Any ideas?

1. Read the FAQ on Tips for SA STBs. After you run the setup wizard, you need to set up for "passthrough" or "upconvert1" (in the settings - press settings twice). Your TV will then stretch the SD channels as required and the HD channels will be also be properly displayed.

The nice thing about the SA3250HD (and passthrough) is that you don't need the S-video connection - everything can be viewed through the component video connection and when properly set up, you don't even need to change the aspect ratios on your TV - the proper one will be used for the SD channels and HD wil usually "override" these settings to also be properly displayed.

Thanks for the information. I wish I had checked this out before the Tech came out. Silly me, I thought he'd be competent!
The last fiasco cost me about 3 hours on a work night. I'm not sure I'm ready for another go as yet and I bet my wife isn't. I will print out your instructions, look for a DVI cable and report back when I make my second attempt.
Can I expect the DVI connection to behave the same way as the component connection? My TV says it will display in digital form. It says the digital-in terminal can only be usedwith 1080i and 480p picture signals. Does that leave me having to hookup DVI and Component or just do the component hookup for analog?
