I am on the verge of buying a 65" Mits HDTV with IEEE-1394 (Firewire) input. I want to upgrade my present DirecTV system to HD (new dish and receiver). I am looking for an STB with DirecTv and a Firewire output. Seems most of the boxes I can find info on have DirecTv and DVI output, but none have DirecTv and Firewire.
Anyone know of any of the new STB's with DirecTv and Firewire, and if so, is it available now and where? Thanks in advance. Mike |

The new RCA units I saw at the CEDIA show in Minneapolis had DVI. I see no reason to have Firewire on a satellite receiver. Firewire is bi-directional (two way) and DVI directional (one way).
There is an advantage of using firewire with D-VHS and other recorders but just for oneway transfer DVI is the way to go I think.

If you had firewire on a satellite or OTA receiver you can output to a digital video recorder. DVI you can't. There is a significant advantage to firewire.
The new sony HD200/zenith 520 have DVI but no firewire. The Samsung TS160 AND T165 have DVI, but the former has DirecTV and the latter has Firewire. Go figure. |

DVI/Firewire
I believe the two D-VHS recorders only allow firewire inputs.
