Advent 30' HDTV Ready TV on sale at K-Mart for $499.00

We just bought one of these sets this last weekend (2/19/2005) and are really enjoying it.
Any suggestions on a reasonable priced HDTV receiver/tuner in the Raleigh area?

I got one of these for my sister in law. have not tried out HDTV on it yet but soon. did pick up an upconverting player.

if your doing over cable HDTV. only one box to consider.... LG LST-4200A. $299 bit an excellent box that does both OTA & analog/HDTV cable reception.

hows the pic quality of the TV in HD ?

Wow! 499? that will give the Sanyo a run for its money, and the Tos, Phil, and Panny as well. I had an advent 20" for 13 years, still works fine.

well i hooked up an upconvertng player to it and was disappointed!

the advent has a really soft picture and no adjustment makes it sharp or clear. I think this set is cheaply made and not worth the $500

but I guess I am use to looking at a Sony XBR.

maybe true HD will look better.

I tried it... very disappointed!!!!!

I paid 496.00 for mine and was very disappointed. This TV is okay if you are only going to watch HD programming (but even that isn't great). I had only had it one day when I started having problems with the remote control. It seems no matter what remote I pointed at the TV... 2 or 3 buttons would operate something on this TV. That may not sound like a big deal until you have to reset the input everytime you try to turn the volume down, or you have to reset the screen size everytime you hit play on your DVD player. I actually had talked myself into trying to live with this until the remote that came with it suddenly quit working at all. If this little issue still doesn't discourage you than maybe this will... The picture is fuzzy and undefined no matter what you run into it. Even my high def Hughes HTL-HD satellite receiver just didn't look sharp no matter what I adjusted. The picture on non-HD programming was practically unwatchable. My analog 27" Sony flat screen is much sharper. I know this is a very low price on this size set with these features but save yourself the trouble of hauling this thing back to the store like I just did. Not to mention that my local Kmart seemed very hesitant to take the set back even though I had only had it 6 days and everything was in new condition. I am now going to Circuit City to try a Panasonic... wish me luck!!!
