Question Black screen on DVD playback looks funky.

Hey, all. This is my first thread, so be gentle.

Okay, I got a Panasonic 47" widescreen a couple of months ago. Haven't gotten around to getting the decoder and a satelite hookup yet, but can't wait until I do. Here's the deal: when I'm playing DVD's, when the screen should be black, it's not. It has these wavy, dark gray 'smears'. I went through a lot of the settings on both my DVD (also Panasonic with progressive scan- connected with monster video component cables) and the set, but nothing seems to make a difference. I'm running on regular crappy cable right now, but I don't notice anything like that while watching TV. I noticed it a lot while watching 'The Others' and 'Fellowship of the Ring'.

Also, can anyone point me to a thread about setting up an OTA antennae. I definately want to do this, but don't know a lot about wiring that baby up and expenses (the decoder box will set me back enough, I'm hoping the antennae won't be as bad).

Any help would be greatly appreciated from you knuckleheads.
