Question CT 34wx52 or PT 40LC12

OK I'm almost at my wits end now trying to figure out what tv would be best for me. For starters - my biggest issue is the infamous "burn in." This is something that I don't want to worry about. I've been told by a number of experts that the direct view CRTs (what we've all been using for the last half century) have the least chance of getting burn in (besides the new DLPs). Yet I've also spoken to some who claim that LCDs are better. I spoke to a Panasonic guy directly and he said not to use the LCD projection tv in 3:4 mode more than 15% of the time...yet others who claim to be experts say that that's nonsense.

I want to be able to play video games and watch things in their intended aspect ratio. The Panasonic guy said that the 34 inch crt widescreen would be my best choice if I wanted to avoid "burn in" and he also said that in general direct view crts are capable of producing a better picture than any other type of tv currently on the market. Again, I've also heard a lot of people challenge this statement saying that it just ain't true.

At this point I'm not sure what to believe. All I know is that I saw the 40 inch projection LCD at Best Buy and it blew me away. I haven't seen the 34 inch because it isn't being shown at circuit city or best buy at the moment.

Because I was so hung up on the burn in thing and was more likely to believe that the direct view crts are more resistant to it than almost anything else - I was very much set on getting the 34 inch crt. But now, after looking around this forum I'm finding that there have been issues with the tv being set too dark from the factory...and that I might be facing a 2 to 300 dollar calibration. That doesn't sound too appealing.

I don't know what to do anymore. Has anyone out there not had this darkness issue with the 34 inch crt - and is there anyone out there who throws caution to the wind and watches their LCD projection tv in 4:3 mode whenever they feel like it and haven't had problems?

Confused,

At least I'm not fake around the holidays like most people. You should respect that at least.

There's a big difference between being fake and being polite, and between being genuine and being a *****.

So suck my balls.

I have a 40CL12

I was deciding on that very question a little over a month ago and opted for the 40CL12. It is pretty badass. I actually just got my set top box yesterday and I thought Jay Leno was gonna slap me b/c his hand looked so real coming outta the tv. I don't know if the direct view model has an rgb input, but one of the nice things about the 40cl12 is that you can plug your laptop in and do work on half the screen and watch tv on the other half. Anyway, I kinda let what i am watching dictate the aspect ratio i use. For the HD stuff, you either get widescreen or 4:3 and you don't have a choice. For regular cable, I watch sports iand news n widescreen, but most other tv in 4:3. It has a mode called "just" where it zooms in on the center of the picture and stretches only the edges to fill the whole screen.
