Angry Convergence issue on HD-52Z575

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this problem.

I have had my HD-52z757 for about 3 months when the picture would begin to ghost in green. It was similair to loss of sync on green as the picture would become unstable. The picture would almost begin to roll, then the red would do the same and then right back to a normal picture. Called the tech, they come out and supposedly there is some tech flash about the lamp ballast board being the issue. Anyway, 2 weeks later the board gets replaced and I'm back in business. The day after the tech installed the board the same problem comes back, but now even worse. The picture will distort so badly that you can't watch it, and will occasionally go blank. Cycling power doesn't work, the problem starts back up a couple of minutes later. The picture almost appears inversed on occassion. The tech comes back next week.

Convergence?

I didn't understand how a convergence issue would occur on set that is not CRT based. I thought this why you would buy a "fixed pixel" DLP, LCD or LCoS-based set like yours.
I just was told by another forum member in Phila. that it was a great set and recommended it to a friend to buy.
Best Buy and a couple of local chains have these sets on for hours each day and no problems-did you just get a lemon?

You should get a refund or replacement...where did you buy it from with such problems?
(sorry to hear about your problems, though-I too, get cursed with electronics so I worry about my advice given about these D-ILA sets).

The HD-52Z575 is a three-chip LCoS if I am correct.

Convergence ???

Well it appears as a convergence issue. I agree that in a digital set there is no convergence per say, but the problem looks like a convergence issue. The color shift and ghosting in a digital set comes from somewhere. Maybe convergence isn't the proper term, but I am not a tech. Picture roll should also not be an issue on a digital set, but I occasionally get that, and there is not horz adjustment.

The company (Sears) replaces the unit if they can repair it on the second go. I'll update you next week after the tech has been here.

Another forum has mentioned CA-Chromatic Aberration-as a possible problem with your light engine. This might need to be replaced by the manufacturer under warranty as this CA problem can cause colour fringing and appear to look like a CRT convergence issue, only a little different.

Well there could be a convergence issue with a 3 chip design (just like a 3 CRTs). But, IMO, it sounds as if you have more going wrong than just a 'simple' convergence issue.

A most unusual situation you have there, mjholden. I've had my HD-52Z75 since late March (bought it from Best Buy) and haven't had any trouble so far regarding convergence. Not that I'm any sort of expert, but do you think you just have a lemon? Heaven knows not every set that rolls off the assembly line is A-1 perfect. In any event, make darn sure Sears gives you the satisfaction you demand as a consumer.

Flashjeff: Thanks for the information on the JVC as my friend bought the 52" HD-ILA model in black at a local retailer and told me how good it looks and will try for the extended warranty, just in case.
I also saw the new 70" JVC which was next to the Hitachi and Sony 70" models and it won hands down.
mjholden, you have got to get that set fixed or replaced!

Glad to have been of help, gparris. I hope your friend enjoys the JVC set. I also got the extended warranty with my set, the peace of mind for me was well worth the cost. So far the only problem I've had with the set is tearing my eyes away from it while watching HD content. All in all, a good problem to have. Heh! A 70 incher? Jeez! The darn things are getting bigger all the time!
