NEW PICS: Mystery Akai TV

Akai PT46DL10

I'm still looking for more info on this model. I took the following pictures at Sam's Club today.

Is anyone familiar with this model? It's a 46" DLP HDTV. They have one at Sam's Club. The picture looks fantastic. $1,699.

I've searched EVERYWHERE online, including the Akai website, but have not found a single piece of info on the model. My guess (judging by the design) is that it's a brand new model for 2006 and hasn't received any publicity yet.

Attached photo is the price tag at Sam's Club.

Any help is appreciated!

Akai tv's are manufactured by Samsung. Look at this link to see if this is the same television. I have an Akai, though not a DLP, and it is a Samsung that has a charcoal colored cabinet rather than a silver cabinet. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. The model I'm interested in is different than the Samsung-looking Akai. I've seen the model you linked to at the stores as well. I'm going to take a picture of the Akai today or tomorrow and post it.

BLW, I went by Sam's again today. I think you're onto something with the link to the HL-P4663W. The Akai model is new and is a 46" 1280 x 720 DLP model just like the Samsung model.

Sam's Club, BJs, and Costco get special model numbers for most electronics. They don't follow the typical model number schema set by the manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. The specs for this particular Akai model (as best I can tell) appear to be the same as for the Samsung HLP4663W which has experienced some serious issues. I'm hesitant to purchase the Akai model especially since I can't find any information on it - special model number aside - it's not listed on the Akai site or anywhere else.

Any more help is appreciated.

Its not a samsung. Its affiliated with a different company. I don't think its a 2006 version but it could be a 2004-2005. Its a good tv. I seen them at sam's club as well. Its a good price considering its a dlp, and it's screen size is 46in, and displays 720p natively. Also it has a digital connection. (DVI) I would get it if it fits your budget, or your local sams club, will run out of stock, and possibly not have a new shipment of that particular tv for a while. Or if any at all.

Good price by the way.

Just my 0.02 cents

I received the following reply from an anonymous poster on the ecoustics message board...

"It's an HDII model using a Zeiss engine. So far the results have been pretty spectacular, I also haven't seen anything on the web. While it ewas being designed we we comparing it to the Samsung unit, which it isn't. We liked our results better. This is the first link from GOOGLE since I have been looking. I have been working with this product for some time and am happy with the results."

Interesting. The set looks nice, what are you gonna do? You gonna buy it or what, maybe you can get some sort of price break.

For an extra $100 I would go with the Toshiba DLP. Better brand. People on this site love it.

I got the 46HM84 for $1979 at a local store. The Akai could be as good or better, it's just not as highly regarded a brand. I think the folks with my model here are all very pleased. Check out the Toshiba threads. On the other hand, if you think the picture on the Akai is great and the price is good and you are conficent of its reliability, I'm sure you'll be making a good decision. One thing the Toshiba has is an HDMI connection. This is a little more convenient than the DVI since it includes audio, so it's one less cable.

Its a nice tv, I saw it at sam's club the other day, it is very slim in width, plus it has a nice design which includes glass, on opposite sides of the unit, as well as a vga input for linking it with a computer. 720p native resolution as well.
