grounding your sat dish

I just made the switch from cable to dish. When I asked the installer if he was going to run a separate ground wire to the sat dish he said that the grounding block that the coax connects to at the point of entry to the house is sufficient. Is this true?

Ground

Mine is grounded the same way. I'm told that it's sufficient for grounding. I've not heard otherwise.

The grounding block sounds worthless for all but static electricity. Texas code calls for an 8 foot grounding rod driven into the ground which I did for my first satellite. After reading an article stating that anything other than elaborate lighting rod SYSTEMS could not discharge the amount of electricity in a direct lightning strike I have not bothered grounding them at all. I have seen lighting blow a hole in the side of a brick house and I don't think an 8 foot rod or grounding block would have saved it.

Grounding your Dish

My satellite dish never misbehaves. Oh sure, I have had to scold it once in awhile, and make it realize that it's an inanimate object, but never have I had to revoke its priveleges for being naughty.
