I have the 48" model and it compares well to both the Sony and Toshiba that I looked at for around the same price. There are definitley some corner focus issues but that is not uncommon among any crt rptvs. If you don't mind spending a good bit of time calibrating it properly, it will most likely be a good tv for you. Personally I now wish that I would have ponied up a few hundred more dollars and bought into the LCOS technology just because I'm so sick of dealing with convergence issues on every crt rptv I've ever owned.

And you base that on traffic on this site?

If it's traffic you want go to the AVS forum where there are plenty of messages on JVC.

The D-ILA sets have great picture quality rivaling the very best DLPs, and at a lower price.

Don't base your decision on message boards; go see one for yourself.

Not so likely with some other brands. There is something to be said about communicating with people who have the same TV in order to work out problems. I'm just not able to find that with the TV I have.

Not much difference between this and the Sony/Hitachi, at least in the store. CC did not have the remote control out so I could not play with the TV. I'm going to a different CC tonight to check it out again, it's $400 off the original price, kinda hard to pass up. Hopefully this store has the remote out. How are you supposed to check a set out without the remote???? I messed with the settings some on the JVC and I couldn;t get rid of the greenish/gray/blue tint to the picture. You get what you paid for with JVC. I got a hell of a deal on mine 2 years ago, but I've had nothing but trouble.

I wish I'd spent the extra money on a different brand. It's been over 2 months and my pile of junk JVC is still broken.

JVC didn't do the best job of stretching analog. Other brands compressed the image less. It was March and it was wall to wall basketball on the air. JVC made the players look short ,fat and part of the basketball backboard was missing from the picture compared to all the other brands in the showroom.

I checked AVS and didn't see a damn thing about JVC. I know where you're coming from with your JVC comments. You have one and it works great (I was in the same boat once), but myself and others have found out that their sets are complete garbage.

There are few people in this world that I would wish my JVC HDTV problems upon.

When spending almost $2000 on a 56" HDTV with a 5 year extended warranty, I expect a set that will last for at least 2 and 1/2 years and when it breaks, I expect it to be repairable.
It's been since March 2005 and either JVC doesn't have the part or a JVC authorized service center can't repair the set.

If for some reason you don't have enough frustration in your life, then choose JVC and skip the extended warranty. JVC does have a good picture when they work. That's the key, WHEN THEY WORK. If they break be prepared for SEVERAL MONTHS without a TV.
All that time without a TV will give you time to think about all the money you saved buying a JVC instead of a more reliable brand TV.

As far as the analog compression issue you are talking about its very possible that the aspect was set to panaramic or cinematic instead of full. It is also almost a universal rule that the big box stores have the Sonys and Toshibas and the like much better calibrated than the JVCs and therefore it is much less presentable. That being said I have only had my JVC for about 3 months (replacing a Mitsubishi rptv) and have spent a lot of time tweaking it using the service manual to the point where I can say I'm finally happy with the product and would gladly put it up against the other models in the picture quality department. That being said if the TV doesn't last for at least 3 problem free years I won't be too happy with the JVC brand either. The thing is, if you look in other forums you'll see that there are plenty of people who have reliability issues with all of the major brands. At this point in time I wouldn't hesitate on buying another JVC product. Last edited by Krease Jones : 06-14-2005 at 06:10 PM.
