94 series owners?
How many 94 series (H94, HM94, HMX94) owners are around here? I'm curious how your TVGOS is working. I've had mine for more than a week and I can't get a single thing to come up on the TVGOS using an OTA antenna in the Atlanta metro area. I receive the analog PBS station just fine, but I'm not even getting the channel lineup. I've called Toshiba and talked to the tech folks at TVGOS and each time they have me go into the TVGOS diagnostic screen and give them a bunch of data, but there doesn't seem to be anything they can actually do. They supposedly have software patches that come along with the data stream on the PBS channel and that seems to help some folks, but mine don't seem to be downloading. Its kind of frustrating when you can't change the settings or do anything to remedy the situation.
I've got a Symbio on order and I'm going to be PO'd if I can't even record with it.

I honestly have no clue as to what yo are speaking of. IF I am correct in assuming you want an on screen tv guide, I would think that would be some sort of subscription service that you pay for.
My 32" Toshiba (7 years old) has an EDS button that when pressed shows what program is on and how much time is left. Never tried it oTA before though. Seeing as how I am a cable guy, I have not had a need for OTA in many, many years.

The question was for 94 series owners, but since you are clueless (in your own words), visit www.tvgos.com for more info. It is a free service that uses a data stream broadcast through the local PBS stations. It is transmitted OTA and through cable feeds. Its been around for quite a few years. Normally it works very well, in fact, it worked perfectly on my 51h93, but its not working on my 51h94.

"I receive the analog PBS station just fine,"
Is that the problem?...is the stream sent on the PBS digital station? Lob |

Nope, I asked TVGOS about this. The PBS station that delivers the stream in Atlanta doesn't even have a digital broadcast yet.

57H94 and TVGOS
IHA 57H94 hooked into a split digital cable feed (Insight Comm) here in Cincinnati/Northern KY. One leg feeds a Moto 6208 STB/DVR and the other leg feeds direct to the TV where I have a Cable Card installed. I did the initial setup on the TGOS within the TV. After a day or so, it did update & populate my listing with what seemed to be all channels authorized by my cable card.
I've only been hooked up a short while and honestly haven't played with the direct TV side much, having spent most of my time learning the STB/DVR side. Both have versions of the TVGOS. The one time I did play with the TV version, I was not too impressed. I did a search on HD programs and it didn't show all of the content. I also thought the program information screens were less complete than on the cable box. Finally, I didn't immeidately see a way to order the listing in a more familiar manner, short of editing each channel. You stated that you have a Symbio on order. I would love to hear any comments you may have on it. In particular, I am interested in whether or not an additional external drive may be added to increase storage space. Also, the Toshiba site states that "Certain encrypted programming may not be recordable.". Can you provide any examples of what this means? Thx |

On paper, it doesn't support any external drives. It may be possible to hack it and add extra drive support if you know what you are doing, but I doubt that is possible. Since the Symbio is not a stand alone recorder, it probably doesn't have much of an operating system to hack in the first place. From what I've read, it completely relies on the TV's software to run. I may try hooking it to my computer's firewire and do some snooping around before I hook it to the TV. I'll let you know. As an update on the TVGOS situation, my TV finally is showing the channel lineup, but still no listing data. Hopefully that means the listing data is not far behind.

Talked to Toshiba today and they are sending me a software upgrade for my 51H94. I think it will be Siene version 1.5. I will post the actual version when I receive it. I will also make the files available to anyone who needs the upgrade, after I have it of course.

Billw, That's great. Did they say what sets the upgrade covers? Is it just Hx4 series, just H9x series? And did they say what fixes are included? Lob |

I'm sure its just for the 94 series. Toshiba didn't say what the update covers, but I've heard from other sources that it mainly fixes some CableCARD issues and Symbio issues, but it might help with the TVGOS problems as well.

I'm just sorry that you still are having difficulties with your TV, regardless of what the issue is.

I have had my 57H94 for about a month, and I never did receive any actual program guide data on the TVGOS. It seemed like the channels were there, but no programming data. I decided to not try and mess with it due to time issues. I am receiving OTA signals from Charlotte, NC. I have not really pursued why it is not working. Please let us know if the update you are waiting on works. I may pursue the issue then if the patch works out.

I finally received the software update and it must have helped. Two days after the update, I finally have some listings! I expect that it will reset itself a few times as the patches are applied, but at least I'm getting something now. Hopefully the Symbio will work now.
If anyone needs the Seine 1.5.0, just send me a PM and I will send you the file and instructions. The update is good for all 94 series models including DLPs and Cinema Series.

I just bought a 57H94 - I haven't set the TVGOS up yet so I'm not sure if mine is even working. Right now I'm just trying to get the stupid cable card to work! Toshiba is sending me the latest & greatest software upgrade - 1.5.8? Hopefully this will fix my problem also. I fought with the cable company for a week only to find out that the software was too early of a revision.
My other problem is that the media card reader is not working. My mother visited over Thanksgiving and we put her Smart Media card in - only to get red X's where pictures should be. (And we tried several resolutions on the camera, nothing worked.) Anyone else experience this? |
