TV Ruined?

Well today after work I got home and decided to play some video games. I turned on my xbox and to my surprise was a horrible picture.

The xbox logo had a triple shadow (which was all in blue) fading to the right side of the screen. Everything coming out of the system was showing up Blue or Yellow with multiple images.

I thought cables were lose or something so I double checked everything. Then I tried my PS2 and Gamecube. Same issue. I just played 6 hours ago on my lunch break and everything was fine.

The hell happened? I'd gladly explain what TV I have only i have no clue. I recieved it from my dad all I know it's an Akai projection HDTV around 46-48in I believe.

But ****, any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Edit: Also I just tried running perfect focus (no clue what it does figured it'd do something) and it getes to 44% and the moving blue squares get to the right of the screen and start going nuts and keeps looping over the same path over and over again then Perfect Focus just shuts down and goes back to whatever screen it was on prior to hitting the Perfect Focus button.

Please don't double cross post... duplicate was removed.

Do you have the same problem on all inputs?

Meh sorry for the double post in different forums but when your 19 and your most treasured device suddenly ****s out, it feels like the world caved in. I"m only looking for help :\

But yeah on all inputs. I had my Xbox hooked up through HDTV ready cables into Component 1. And had regular AV hook up on the side for my PS2 and Gamecube.

It may require a service call. Before you call, you can look at the HDTV FAQ "things to check first", but sounds like a TV issue.

Yeah, I plan on calling someone tomorrow to come check it out. *sigh* Hopefully doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to fix it >_>

Btw, I'm a big time gamer... What's the best TV type to have for gaming? Projection seems to be a real no-no for gaming or so that's the vibe I've been recieving.

If it truely is I'm considering selling my TV and picking up something else. Any suggestions if my current TV issue doesn't work out?

DLPs are supposed to be great for gamers and you can pick up last year's models for less than 2k.

Akai pt4298hd Convergence Issues

Believe the problem with my TV is the convergence. Turned it on the other day and found blue/yellow tint around the images and extreme ghosting (blue tinted).

Is there a way to reset the convergence?

I have the same issue with my PT4298HD bought from Costco. It has been working perfectly for 2 years then yesterday the red convergence went so far out that even adjusting it manually doesnt get it anywhere near. Spoke to Akai and they said it was the convergence board.

Just curious but
1. Is there a service menu or similar where I can adjust keystone, Pincushion etc?
2. Has anyone had the board replaced and can give me an idea of cost for fixing this
3. Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to change the board yourself.
4. How many other people have had this issue with this TV?
5. Does anyone know what the life expectancy of a convergence board is (2 years seems a little short)

1. This is usually done in the convergence menu.
2. Some people have had service on the convergence board. We've seen costs of $200-500.
3. If you know what you're doing and that's what's wrong, it's relatively easy, however, the complete board is probably several hundred $.
4. There have been lots of people with convergence issues on various TVs, not necessarily this TV.
5. Most people have had problems in 3-4 years.

Some people have replaced ICs, resistors and checked the convergence board soldering themselves with a cost under $100.

See the sticky on convergence problems at the top of the Hitach forum.

1. Didnt see any of these in the convergence Menu just red and blue convergence and "Perfect Focus" (which isnt )
2. Ouch! I am hoping that the bulk of the cost there is labour
3. I used to work on Barco and Electrohome Professional projectors so if it is a simple card swap I should be OK.
4. I guess the commercial stuff has a shorter life than the pro gear then. Will check out the card just to make sure it isnt a simple component issue or dry joint.
5. That sounds more reasonable although I miss the days of equipment that was built to last....showing my age now. I am more used to equipment with a 10 year in service life span.

Thanks for the Info, I will take a look at the board at the weekend and see if I can fix it. I will post whatever I find here to help out others with the same issues.

1. By adjusting each point (in the service convergence that adjusts all three guns), it adjusts keystone, pincushion, etc. Some people use an overlay to get things right. First you do the green, then the red, then blue.

2. Yes, bulk is labour if they replace just the parts (ICs, resistors), however, the board on its own can be a couple hundred or more...

3. Good.

4. A lot of people were disappointed. It appears that the parts were "underspec'd", so a lot of people have had this problem, including me. My electronics also usually last 10-20 years... Hitachi offered to supply the parts free, but only if they serviced my TV. The overall cost would have been the same and I'd already done the repair with a technician nearby.

5. See above.

hello

i own an Akai pt4298 (Cosco) and yesterday, after 3 1/2 yrs, it started : I have a convergence problem; klike a red tint and the image has like a ghost into the back

my questions are:

1. have you managed to repair your TV all by yourself?
2. if yes, where did u get the parts from ?

already called a technician, but im not sure im going to like the price

thank you

PS what can I do in order to discover if it's inly the ICS and resistors that r burned or its the board itself?

If you haven't already, see the Sticky at the top of the Hitachi forum on Convergence problems. By your description, I'm not sure you have a "classic case". Do you have a photo you can post?

PS. A Profile Location of "Canada" doesn't help much. We can typically help you more if you give a nearby city/town.

Those look like classic symptoms as discussed in the Hitachi sticky. Read post 1 of that sticky.

The STKs are the convergence ICs, yes. See the Sticky at the top of the Hitachi forum on "Convergence Problems".

look at picture labeled back8 (from the post above); is that my convergence board? the serial number for this part is BP41-00045B. It costs 14 CAD.
my problem is that everyone with my type of TV ordered the BP94-00383A which costs 115 CAD. so which one?

thank you for your help
