Exclamation Help newbie asking for advice before he picks up an Advent!

I was just wondering if anyone had some usful information on the current Advent 30" HDTV HT3061A. I am new to HD tvs and have researched them some but still don't have an understanding of product brands. I know the Advent is a "generic brand" but seeing that it was 497 at BBuy i couldn't pass it up. (I also had a 12% rebate) Soon after I started looking around for info on this TV and have not heard much could anyone help me out?

I am thinking about switching my buy to a Magnavox 30MW5405/1 HDTV with component video w/o DVI or HDCP for 200 more bucks( I haven't picked up my TV). Help I am split! I don't want a bad TV that will crap out or have problems with it being too soft or having stuff pop up on the screen! --Thanks Arturo_9

thanks for the info. But why do you recommend not spending anything less than 1200 dollars on a HDTV? Also 1200 dollars versus the 440 i spent on the advent is a huge difference. Could anyone help me out considering the amount spent on the 497 dollar Advent HDTV?

If your looking into crt direct view sets buy either a sony, panasonic or samsung they are the best in picture quality!

Can't recommend toshiba since they no longer make ther own crt sets no more. They are now outsourced to ORION co.

you can find out all about it at AVS forums.

re:Advent

I bought the 32"Advent from best buy and returned it 1 week later. The remote control wasnt compatable to my set top box and the sound had some major problems. The HD pic was excellent but the regular over the air channels looked like crap. I spent a little more and got a Panasonic 32 CRT and I am thrilled with it.

Good luck

Do lots of research. $497 for a HDTV is beer money. I use one in my bedroom and it works very well. The image wuality is pretty good to my eyes. I am a MRI technologist so I am used to looking critically at the screens I view. In two years the newer HDTV's should all be 1080P. Not that it matters as the signals we get are at best what 480P for now. Use AmEx CC to buy it and you double the warranty to 2 years at no charge. My set has no audio problems. It blows away my Toshiba 32" TV that is in my apartment. I can adjust the sound to what I like which is a nice feature. The remote is not even needed as my comcast remote was programmed to accept the input code for the 30" Advent HDTV. The sound is excellent on my advent. For the price I will not even care if I toss it in two years. If I relocate I plan to buy another one for my new apartment. The current one I have is used in my bedroom at my Dads' house. I still have a 32" 2 yr old Toshiba regular TV in my current apartment for now.

Go with whatever you want. I really believe that Advent in their new model ending in A is improved over the previous model. My Dad had a surge that damaged the power supply in his bose wave radio, and the power supply in his 2 day old Advent. This was not the fault of the Advent. Learn from this and buy a UPS for your new TV. We now have 3 UPS 300 watt power supplies with surge control on all 3 of our HDTV's. That is cheap insurance and will protect all our TV's. Best Buy exchanged it for no fee and carried in his new Philips 30" HDTV. To be honest I do not see much of a difference in picture quality. All my Dad did was shell out more loot. I am keeping my Advent. Good luck and read up on whatever model you buy. John

I bought an ht2751A 3 weeks ago and it has been crap. At $300 from Best Buy I couldn't pass it up at the time. I about about to leave now and return it...going to upgrade to the Sony kv30hs420. I think it will be worth the extra $500. I'll let you know.

The "Advent" is a Chinese owned and mfg. company. The Chinese bought a number of US trade names. ADVENT is one of them. When you have trouble, you can send it China. Avoid it...at all costs. Go with Samsung, Sony, Mitsubishi
or Philips

Advent is a good company from my little experience. I recently bought a 30" widescreen TV from KMart, and surprisingly is supports every HD resolution currently available (unless you count 1080p, which I cannot test at all). It has great sound and a very good picture for having paid $430 for it and a service plan at KMart. I suggest Advent for anyone who does not want to spend much money. Great Value

Gee, I guess all the TV's made in Japan, Korea, Malaysasia, Mexico and all foreign countries should also be avoided, right? Most everything we buy today from "American" cars to toasters are now made overseas. I have had no problems with my 30" Advent HDTV. I have a free 2 year extended warranty in case I ever do. If the TV dies after 2 years it owes me nothing. Anyone buying any TV should use AmEx to double the 1 year standard warranty on any new TV they buy. The image on analog is actually much better than my Dad's much more expensive HDTV. The image on analog is as just good as our new 60" Sony set. On HDTV material the picture is very good on the Advent. Some people who bash Advent do not, or have never actually owned one themselves. Kind of like people stating facts about audio equipment that they have never actually auditioned, or owned. John
