Unhappy AV-48WP30 Power indicator on but screen off and nothing operates.

I own an AV-48WP30. I was adjusting my red convergence through the service convergence (the white button behind the front panel) when the screen suddenly went black. The power was still on and I could hear a c******* sound coming from inside the TV. I could not turn off the power from the switch on the front but I could from the remote power button after a 5 second delay. I unplugged the unit for a few hours then plugged it back in and powered it on. Same thing. Power was on but screen was black and no menu functions allowed. The TV is no longer under warranty and I have a service manual destine to arrive next week some time. Does anyone know how to bring my TV back to life??? I just want to get it working so that I can get rid of it.

Something in the high voltage section let go.
You did what I would suggest to do. It's pretty much service call time.

Nope. I'm trying to sell the piece of garbage for $100 to someone who will want to take it to JVC and have it fixed. Though I pretty sure that I'm just going to end up seeing if it will float in the pond behind my apartment. Piece of crap. I'm never wasting money on a JVC or any other expensive tv set again. I can't believe I paid $2000 to get 3 years of use.

I just love these "it's a piece of junk" and "I'll never buy a ----- again" statements.
It's a mass produced consumer piece of equipment. It will 'break' sooner or later. It was mad to be as cheaply as possible because YOU, the consumer wants it that way.
YOU, the consumer wants something for as little as possible.
Enter China................

Next time go out and buy a 5 or 6 digit priced professional projector or a broadcasr monitor.

I'd happily pay $300 for a new system board that needs replacement, but even the official JVC repair center says they can't get the part. The set is only 2 years old! Don't give me a spill about how I should pay 15K for a REAL TV, instead of 2K. I'd rather save toward my kid's college or something like that. I have a 4 year Service Warranty with Best Buy, but even though they know the part can't be ordered and every one of these models have been replaced when it came to backordered parts, I still have to wait 30 frickin days for them to make a "best-effort" on getting the part, before they just give me a new TV.

Videobruce is right. It's all of our faults. Greedy Americans who want things cheap. That's the reason why manufacturing has all but entirely left this country. Almost everything we buy now is made in some foreign country where the people employed there are not fairly treated because we are a nation addicted to Wal-Mart.

However, I did not choose a JVC because it had Chinese parts or because it was cheap. On the contrary, it was top of the line when I bought it. Also, it doesn't matter if one spends $2K or $15K on a television; there is almost a guarantee that the parts are manufactured in one of the countries that we've allowed corporate America to rape.

We are all guilty, but that doesn't mean that we have to just sit on our hands and accept crappy products. When one stops purchasing a product from a certain manufacturer, that manufacturer loses that person's business. That is the only way to protest in a greed driven marketplace. Hopefully there will be someone out there interested in making quality products in the future.
