Problem with SAT HD520 OTA HD signal

I have the above STB connected to my Hitachi 65SWX20B RPTV via the DVI connectors. Just installed a Winegard Chromstar UHF/VHF antenna in the attic. I am only able to receive a digital signal when I am in the 480P mode. Signal strength is in the lower good range. I have a very good picture in this 480P mode. When I switch to any of the other digital/HDTV modes on the HD520 (1080i, 720p, hybrid or EZ DVI) I lose the digital picture. There is a fluttering with occassional moments of excellent picture strength. This happens with known high definition broadcasts as well as with digital non HD broadcasts. 480P is the only way I can capture any digital signal. Is this all a matter of antenna signal strength? My analog stations come in quite well. I am only 15 miles from the primary transmitters and am using a an attic preamp with an amplifier. This leads to a signal that reads around the g on the good portion of the digital signal strength scale. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried connecting via component? Sounds like some type of protection scheme preventing anything aboe 480p from being sent to the TV. DVI problem?

Thanks for the reply. I did connect via components and that has solved my problem. 1080i in all its glory. I still do not understand why I am limited to 480P with the DVI connection. Did I waste $40 on this DVI cable? I have been unable to find a menu item addressing the DVI connection. Thanks again.
