Exclamation Samsung HCM4215W convergence help.

Hey guys, I seem to have the common problem of convergence not lining up, and not being able to move the lines. I called a service tech, and they estimated $300 to fix the convergence module. Well, I opened the back, and for the life of me I can't find the convergence module.

I can find the two IC's, and the convergence AMP board it is connected to, but not the convergence module. What does it look like? Do you know where it is located on the HCM models?

Also, from reading around, it seems all I might actually need is either two new IC's (STK392-040) or an entire new convergence board, which would also include the two new IC's (AA95-2002A is the one being recommended). Could this be true?

I'm just really confused about what I might need. It didnt take too much time for the tech boys to tell me that I need a new convergence module, and from browsing various sites and forums, the module costs around $300. So, either they are'nt charging for labor (HA!) or they have a really cheap module on hand. Or, like quite a few people seem to have to need, I just need a new board, which costs around only $100...

Again, any help would be appreciated, I can't afford the $300 repair cost, and if at all, I would like to find the module on its own, but I can't even find it on the board. Anywho, here is all the tech info I could bring up. Thanks!!

SAMSUNG HCM4215W (APRIL 2002)
STK392-040 (IC's)
AA41-0061A (convergence amp board #)
AA95-02002A (recommended replacement board)

Check out the following thread, which sounds similar to yours. I think the convergence "module" and the convergence board are one and the same?

Thanks 57U, I've read that thread many times

I'm beginning to think the "module" is just another way of saying "convergence board". I would appreciate a confirmation of that though. But again, thanks for the reply!

Can you solder? When you open up the tv you will find the convergence board which has 2 chips soldered to it labeled STK392-040. These are called convergence amps. If you look at the board you will see that 1 of them controls blue and half of green. The other controls red and half of green. You have to desolder them, remove them and replace them. Which colors can you not move?

There is also 2 resistors in there that are actually fuses. They are labeled that way I beleive. May want to replace those also.

If you can solder or know someone who can this is a cheap fix. I am not a pro but had the same problem and it worked for me.

You can buy the STKs here.

I wonder if I could ask you a favor. Do you know how to enter the service menu? I need to know what all the default settings for this model are. You enter it by turning the tv off, pressing mute, 1, 8, 2, power. If you get really bored and wanna write down all the settings I would be eternally grateful. If not thats cool too.

Good luck getting your tv fixed tho!
