I just bought one.

The product is excellent. Light - space saving. DVD resolution 480p. I found that the customer service, though available by toll free number, was not very knowledgeable about the product. By the way, the 3 year extended warranty appears also to be a good deal at $79. (if the unit was priced at $100O that warranty would have been $179.) The HDTV picture is incredible! and the unit is very stylish.

I just bought the Akai ($999) for our church. I was comparing it to the Vizio 32" ($899) which was next to it. The Vizio (in our Sam's store) unit had a color cast that made grays and whites too warm (yellow/orange). The Akai was great in default mode, but also has other color temp settings if you are so inclined. Two things really made the Akai stand out: the sound (which was MUCH better) and the attached DVD player. It set up very easily and looks/sounds great. There was only 1 Akai on the floor and about 10 Vizio units. One other small plus for the Akai was that the s-video and component inputs are hidden in the back...the Vizio put them on the right side. The only advantage the Vizio had over the Akai was the case style. The Vizio has the slight advantage there.

Well I checked this unit out today and really liked it in the store. I'll be picking one up before Sunday and will give everyone my take on it in an in-home setting. I just sold my Toshiba TW40x80 RPTV that I've had for about five years and need a new set for the premier of 24's fifth season this Sunday!

Well I got the TV and I love the picture on it. I am having a problem though. When in TV or DVD mode, there is a buzzing noise coming from the speakers. I've turned the volume all the way down and it's still there...even when there is no audio connected to the tv, the buzzing persists. I exchanged one set for another and it's the same way. ibctoknow, do you have this problem with yours? The buzzing stops though when I press mute.

A piece of junk. I too have had problems with the sound (goes up/down by itself; hissing or popping sound periodically). Have gone to SAM's twice to get replacements and the same problem with each one.

Their (Akai) Customer Service is a joke. Something tells me that SAM's brought a bunch of these in bulk and they might be irregulars or other rejects, because Customer Service at AKAI does not know about the item and it does not appear on the AKAI website either. SAM's must know they are lemons because they usually give you the 3rd degree when making a return but when you come back with this item in the box, they ask no questions at all.

The AKAI 1-800 number people (once you can finally get through to a live person )gave this pearl of wisdom with respect to the noises coming from the unit "ummm, well turn it off from the main power in the back of the unit for about 30 seconds to reset it, then turn it back on". Did that and the problem persists.

Furthermore, you cannot find this item ANYWHERE else when doing a web search. Something tells me these are rejects or prototypes and the whole batch that was sent to America has major problems.

The adage it true, if something seems too good to be true, such as a quality TV/DVD/LCT/HDTV unit for under $1,000, it usually is.

I am going to wait until AFTER the SuperBowl and see what is out there on sale from a real Electronics store, not a warehouse club.

U need to change sound to stereo not mono

All u have to do is change sound mode to stereo and not mono. The sound problem will stop.

how do you do that - from the sound menu? i have the costco 27" version and it suffers from the same problem. if you change backlight to high, the noise is minimized but i still hear it when it's quiet like late at night.

Sound Mode

That is another flaw with this unit, the remote control.

The remote is gray and so is the text on and above the buttons, which in addition to their small size, makes it almost impossible to read except in the brightest lit of rooms. Even my cheap, old Montgomery Ward's television has a lighted remote control.

Anyway, there is no button to use to switch the mode from mono to stereo.

The best move is to take this junk back to SAMS or Costco.

i believe he is referring to MTS button which is only good for TV mode.
i am using a Harmony 680 to control it and works great-better than monster remote shipped with unit.

Are you still getting the sounds ?

Are you still getting the sounds ?

It is funny that this unit is nowhere to be found now, on the Net, at SAMS, anywhere.

If you go to Akaiusa.com you will find this 32" with dvd listed. On bottom left under visual entertainment click tvcombo you will find it listed on that page.

Buzzing noise

I am seriously thinking of buying this tv this coming weekend at Sams. They have it now for $850, which seems to be a pretty good deal. Other than the buzzing noise, the feedback appears to be good value for money..

What is the solution for the buzzing noise.. Did anyone found a fix for that problem or got it fixed ?

Also, am planning to hang it on the wall. Did anyone hang this on the wall.. any issues ?

Thankyou.

You've been warned

If you like having your t.v. programs sounding like popcorn popping in the background, go right ahead and purchase this piece of junk.

LCT2701AD 27" LCD Button does have a Mono/Stereo button, it is called MTS, which will adjust Mono/Stereo/Sap, if your getting a buzzing noise, which cables are being ran from what and to where on the television. Also in the manual there is information on the Surround On/Off that will lower the humming noise, if it can be heard within 6 feet with these adjustments made then it is a design feature, if it can be heard more than 6 feet away it is a problem with the audio board. The 32 in LCD Tv has pretty much the same features depending on the model#, pretty sure your talking about the LCT3201AD, after browing Sam's website, the only 32" they had listed. Hope this was helpful

I am getting the popping/snapping noise on the 37" model. I've already exchanged it once at Sam's and have the exact same problem. Does anyone have a Akai combo LCD/DVD unit that DOESN'T have the popping?

The noise is with any source (including the built in DVD) so it's not a cabling issue.

I hate to be an "I told you so"

...but it is what it is.

The Akai is a piece of junk.

Your best bet is to take it back and get your money back.

If something is too good to be true in terms of price, it usually is.
