Difference between RS audio/video and component cables??
Hello All
Can anyone tell me the difference between Radio Shacks Gold component video cable and audio/video cable. They have the same thickness and have the same connectors. The only difference I can see is the different color bands and the components are triple the price. If thats the case I can remember which cable goes where without the color coding!! Graci DJ |

Some people use regular "RCA" cables without any problems. The "gold ends" component cables are only about $20-30, so most people buy them, since it's not a lot of money to spend to have good cables, with proper colour coding.
The A/V cables at my (Canadian) Radio Shack are not the same quality, so I paid C$25 (US$15) for component cables on sale.

A/V cables consist of two connectors (red/white) that are designed to carry an audio signal (50 Ohms) and one composite video (75 Ohm).
Component cables consist of three video cables (Red/Green/Blue). All are 75 ohm. Although A/V cables could work, I would say spend the extra $10 and get the right cable up front. That way when you have any problems/questions, you know that you have the proper cables. |
