Hi...I was trying to get some info/feedback related to a Panasonic PT-40LC12 (or PT-45LC12) that I saw yesterday for the first time. I've searched around and the only thing that I can find is a list of specs that isn't really informative. The 40" that I saw seemed to have an excellent picture...haven't been able to find a 45" listed anywhere. I think that these sets are pretty new (the 45" might not even be available). As I understand it, this set is supposed to be an LCD projection TV which doesn't have the convergence issues found in a regular projection TV. I had been looking at the Sony 51HW40 and the Toshiba 50HX81. This set is a bit smaller and a bit more expensive (priced at about $2850 at Best Buy). I haven't been able to get any price at all for the 45". However, the picture quality seemed comparable to the Sony, and according to the sales dude it didn't have the burn in issues for the guns that I've been reading about. Also, when viewing normal TV signals in the 4:3 format, the side bars were black (instead of the annoying gray I've seen on the other sets). Does anyone have any information or opinions on these new Panasonic sets? Thanks...

Getting rid of the black bars

I recently looked at the Panasonic wide screen CT- 30x52.
The set allowed you to get rid of the black bars in the 4:3 ratio mode, and it allowed you to take a fullscreen DVD and expand it to fill the screen, but with a widescreen DVD at 1:85 or 2:35 it will not allow you to get rid of the black bars.
It makes no sense to me to buy a widescreen tv with a big picture tube but have black bars cover almost a third of the screen.
Even though DVD's say on the back the black bars are a "bonus feature", to me they are a show stopper. Any ideas on this. Mike
