Dvi Pc To Hdtv Overscan? Any Suggestions?
I have my ati aiw 7500 dvi out to my hdtv dvi in. I am using my hdtv as my monitor. Of course it sees it as digital monior. The problem I am having is that the tv cuts out about 10% of the veiwing are on all of the corners of my desktop i.e.-overscan. The pic quality is awsome, I just can't see all of my desktop on the hdtv's screen. Is there a tool out their made to correct this overscan. I don't need need a new resolution, just something that will correct the overscan. When I use s-video and unplug the dvi from tv, the screen fits perfect. Just not the picture quality I get when using a dvi connecter. I am currently using the s-video on my hdtv as my primary monitor with my dvi disconected becuase that lets me see everything. My tv is a 51" Hitachi that I recently purchased. I have a 2.0mhz, 256ram, 80gig hd, and a ati all in wonder 7500 graphics card. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I believe if you go into Control Panel - Display - Advanced settings, there is a tab for "TV" that may allow you to adjust the "size". I have a Compaq notebook and my Radeon driver has such an adjustment. I'm at home at my Mac, otherwise I could have a more detailed look, but these drivers are different anyway, so your tabs may not be the same... Good Luck.
Others here with more experience may be able to provide better information.

It does have the tab for the TV to resize the screen. But that one is used for the S-video. That is why I can get the s-video connection to fit so good. My vid. card recognizes the DVI as a Digital Flat Monitor. I was just using the DVI as the primary monitor and the s-video as the secondary, but that uses a lot of cpu, so I disconnected the DVI and have the s-video as the primary monitor until I can find a fix for the DVI input that overscans the desktop display. Any suggestions? Anyone.

Have you checked the HTPC forum at avsforum.com? They have the answers to all those questions.

Ok, I have tried just about every resollution imaginable with the powerstrip software to correnct the overscan on my hdtv through the dvi connection. I tried several customized resolutions from several different sources. Either the screen spins out of control, or 3/4 of the vertical screen is cut out and placed on the opposite side. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone with my tv had any success with the dvi and correcting the overscan with powerstrip? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DVI & ATI
I had a similar problem to the one that you described.
Sony KV-32HS500 HDTV (4:3 aspet ratio) ATI AIW 8500DV My problem is that the resolution it gave me was 720 x 480 (which is a 16:9 aspect ratio so that I would have to pan left and right to see the whole screen). I then went to the ATI website to update my driver and now I can get 640 x 480 resolution - much better since this is the proper 4:3 aspect ratio. The problem is that this resolution is too low to be useful so I don't use my DVI cable at all. What I did was I bought a DVI-component video dongle from ATI. This allows me to have a much higher resolution display (1152 x 648). Good luck! |

Yeah, the goofy TVs only support video scan rates over the DVI, and ATI in their wisdom did not supply a lot of video scan rates with the cards. They also did not account for overscan, but hey, they are a computer video card company so what do you expect. The ATI All-in-wonder 9700 pro claims to support 1080 (it does not say 1080i, but I am assuming that maybe they mean 1080i because 1080p would suck). The All-In-Wonder cards are suppose to be for TV applications, again you think they would get it right, but who knows.

I am a newb here so please be patient with me!
I recently bought the ATI Radeon 9700Pro Video Card for my PC. I also bought the DVI-->Component Dongle before reading any of these posts, and am encountering the same problems as everyone else......overscan, 1080i output only at awful screen sizes(640X480, 1700X1000, 1800X....., etc). The first screen size is useless as nothing fits on the display! The others are just as useless because the text etc is TOO small to see! All the other screen sizes(800X600, 1024X768) only display in 480p or 480i, then you have to scroll the screen around, and still cannot get the entire desktop etc. to display! I currently have a Sony KP-61HS10 HDTV. It is capable of 480i, 480p, 960i, and 1080i. All I want to be able to do is Display 800X600, 1024X768, and possibly 1280X1024 in 1080i on my HDTV. Is this possible? I am not wanting to build a HTPC, my main interest are RTS games that I would like to play on my big screen that aren't available for console systems(x-box etc.) Most of these games are designed for 800X600 or 1024X768 screen sizes. Is this even possible with a newer HDTV that has DVI inputs built in?? If so, which HDTV(s) would these be??? THANX FOR ANY HELP!!!!
