xxF59 Hitachi Service Menu Codes

xxF59 Hitachi Service guide V1.1
Power the TV on.
Press and hold the MENU key on the TV control panel, then press the following sequence on the Remote Control:MENU+8+SELECT, Release the Menu key on the TV control panel.

When in the service menu you have the following options, SERVICE MODE, SUB BRIGHT, WHITE BAL HIGH, WHITE BAL MEDIUM, WHITE BAL STANDARD, WHITE BAL B&W, H POSITION, V POSITION.

To go deeper into the service menu, simply press MENU on the R/C

To EXIT the service menu, press the INPUT key on control panel, or the EXIT key on the remote.

DCAM Mode:

On the REMOTE Control:

Hold down the TV key
Press and release the MENU key
Press and release the INFO key
Release the TV key

Now the Remote Control is ready for DCAM adjustments, you now want to enter the service grid hatch pattern on Your set, to do this we need to press the blue SERVICE ONLY button, this button is located behind the speaker grill of your set(the speaker grill should slide out when pulled from the sides), remove the board covering this button with 6 screws. Looking inside the TV the circuit board on the bottom should have a small blue button located slightly to the right of the center of the board, placed on the front edge of the circuit board, I overlooked it at first but it is there(not the CRTs, please do not even touch these as you will get a unpleasant shock with a couple thousand volts)

Under the speaker grill
Service Only switch
DO NOT play with the focus and screen pots on the black box mounted under the speaker grill, the screen knobs effects the CRT grid voltage and will permanently ruin your picture until you pay a professional to come re-adjust it, the electrostatic focus knobs will make your TV blurry and are only to be used when you know specifically what you are wanting to do(thats another post all together)
REMOTE CONTROL KEY FUNCTIONS WHEN IN DCAM MODE

INPUTS - Blue (13x9 adjust)
ASPECT - ROM Write
DAY/NIGHT - ROM Read
MENU - Remove Color
EXIT - Cross Hatch/Video Mode
INFO - Green
GUIDE - Calculation
2 - Cursor UP
5 - Cursor DOWN
6 - Cursor RIGHT
4 - Cursor LEFT
0 - RED (7x5 Adjust)
STOP KEY - Initialize
PLAY KEY - Raster Position
FAST FORWARD KEY – Phase
If you wish to use your own convergence pattern, you can simply scroll through various modes using MENU when in the Service Only adjustment mode

Make sure after the adjustments are made, you write the new data to the ROM using the aspect button when in service only mode.

When you press aspect a message asking you to write to rom comes up, press aspect again, shortly you will see green dots, you can exit these green dots by pressing mute or aspect

YOU MUST DO THIS STEP FOR MAGIC FOCUS TO WORK
To re-initialize do the following on the service convergence screen

Press ASPECT
- "WRITE ROM?" should appear
Press the STOP button on the bottom of the remote
-Magic focus will initialize
When its finished green dots will appear
Press mute, they will go away, turn the TV off by using the "To get out of DCAM code," Whenever entering this code with the remote pointed at the TV it will power your set off(or on if the set is already off), do not worry.

To restore normal functionality on the remote, enter this code.

To get out of DCAM Mode:
Hold TV Key
Press and release 0 Key
Press and release 1 Key
Release TV Key

Model Differences: 51F710a, 51F59, 57F59, 65F59, 51F59J, 57F59J, 65F59J

Any requests for info from the service manual made will be addressed to the best of my ability.

Feel free to add this info to the sticky

-Revised v1.0, all codes now work, pictures showing service only button added, slightly more detailed DCAM adjustment directions added, still working on how to re-initialize magic focus
-Initialization of magic focus has been added

The service menu code was already included in the FAQ on Service Codes (the 4th one, under Hitachi, in the first link), but thanks for the DCAM info and the additional service menu info.

I've added a link to this post in the DCAM sticky & FAQ.

57U, the code is differs, it may be the same sequence, but its different

While HOLDING menu on the TV itself, enter the sequence on the remote control menu+8+select

VS

Enter Sequence Menu+Menu+8+select

This minor change is what has kept us out of the service menu until now.

Update: Fixed the minor miss translation with the DCAM code for the remote, however it still does not function as the service manual states it does.

Update 2: Found a step missing in the service menu necessary for DCAM convergence, revising again.

If you find any grammatical errors please inform me and they will be corrected, after all I may not be a grammar nazi but many on the web are.

When I press the GUIDE key after doing the DCAM convergence, the screen does not blank like it says in the manual. Are you seeing this as well?

Lee, have you stored the data? I think it does the interpolation when you write to ROM so if you do it again there is nothing to calculate.

Actually, the service manual states to hit the guide button before you store the information into the ROM. As far as I can tell, it is storing the information fine. So, what good does the interpolation do?

It should smooth out the ripples between the adjust points that you sometimes get with nearby corrections.

Thanks for the reply. I'm waiting for my geometry template to arrive, then I'll tackle the whole geometry/convergence thing again. It's already looking real good.

I did not know to press GUIDE before writing to ROM. By ripples do you mean s-curves, or do you mean some other phenomena?

Question Question on a couple items (DCAM)

Does PLAY key change raster (large "=" symbol) position to the vertical, such as "||" ?

What does phase do (FAST FORWARD key on the remote), and does it need to be done during DCAM procedure?

Also, GUIDE key doesn't blank the screen for me either, what it does do is it colors the cursor (raster?) red if it wasn't already red, and snaps it to the center crosshair if it wasn't already there.

On my set I have to press the blue SERVICE ONLY button to take it out of service grid mode and back to displaying the current cable tv channel before TV-0-1 key sequence on the remote will turn the TV off. I assume this is normal?

My set is a 51F59.
