EZ DVI display on ZENITH HD-SAT520

One of the options for "display format" on this STB is "EZ-DVI". Obviously to be used when there is a DVI connection. Problem:When cycling thru the options every one is displayed EXCEPT EZ-DVI. My HD-sat520 is connected to my SONY KV-32HS500 using a dual link DVI-D 3 meter cable. Everthing else seems to be alright but I cannot select the EASY DVI option. DVI is displayed on the box when I watch tv. I only have a OTA antenna hooked up right now-no cable,no DIRECT TV.

Zenith STB

I'm running the same STB to a Toshiba 50HDX82. I use a 3-meter single-link DVI cable, and am able to select EZ-DVI. My understanding of the EZ-DVI option is that the STB 'senses' the monitor's display settings and automatically adapts it's output to the monitor's 'default' mode. So if your monitor is a 1080i setup, the STB converts all inputs to 1080i. Perhaps the STB cannot sense the monitor's format, or the dual link cable is the culprit. Just guessing here.

By the way, I use the stb's 'Native' setting rather than EZ-DVI. The Toshiba can handle all formats, doing an internal 'upconversion' of most everything to 1080i as I understand it. I thought your monitor could do so as well but I haven't had a chance to work with one yet so I'm not sure.

Good luck.

I ran into some problems with Sony TVs, where they were shipped without the EDID data programmed into the TV. EDID data is what the DVI soure (e.g. your sat-box) uses to determine the formats supported by your TV.

Cucumber may be right. If the sat-box cannot read any EDID data, then it may disable DVI. Sony will probably not admit that your TV is "bad" and reading EDID from your TV requires some special tools so it may be hard for you to find out if the EDID is good or not.

Call the sat-box manufacturer to find out how there DVI works. If it works like Cucumber suggested, then you can try giving Sony a call.
