Remote Control Problems w/ Multi TV's

I have a 37" Westinghouse and a 52" Sony, they both sit rather close together and I'm having problems with the remotes. It seems the remotes interefere for each TV, powering on one with the remote turns the other on, is it possible to change the frequency of the remotes so they don't interefere?

THanks,

Todd H.

Typically you cannot change an IR frequencey. On RF items they have that capability because the signals travel further and neighbours can affect your unit.

The IR frequencies SHOULD not interfere, as they should be unique to the equipment - I'm guessing the remotes are not well built and "bleed" an adjacent frequency, or perhaps simply use the same "power" frequency.

If that's the only item affected, you may be able to workaround this by pointing the remote away from the item you don't want powered on/off while still affecting the item you do want turned on/off.

My TV's sit nearly side by side so pointing in a different direction isn't possible. It's weird, my Comcast DVR/HD Cable box and the remote to my Sony TV controls both, also the remote that came with my new Westinghouse controls both. I wonder if I got a higher quality remote for my Westinghouse and programmed it for only that TV would that work better?

I know the TVs are close together, however, have you tried pointing the remote say 45 degrees to the right of the Sony or 45 degrees left of the Westinghouse to see if you can affect only one TV? Sounds like the power code is identical.

You could also try taping a small piece of cardboard or something to the front of one, other, or both TVs just to the side of the IR sensor, sticking out from the TV, so that the sensor would only receive to "one side" of the sensor (may help with what I described above).

Perhaps you can write to both Westinghouse and Sony (include the model numbers of the TV) to see what they have to say about this, as they should NOT be using the same code.
