Just bought my HS30

Just purchased my Sony yesterday after looking for almost 2 years. While I love the Mits and Pioneer, I couldn't bring myself to pay 4 or 5 thousand for technology that might or might not be there in 4 years. My father in law used to own a TV repair shop, and he recommended the SONY or Hitachi.

My only question out there is, is the SONY bright enough? I know that it has 4 CRT's while the Hitchi had 5 for a comperable model.

i'm glad to hear that you made the big purchase. I hope you're happy with the results so far. I've had the same concern as you regarding the brightness. I tried to calibrate my set using the Video Essentials DVD. As most people say, after calibration, it usually seems a little dim, but you get used to it. I think for broadcast TV, its set a bit low, but for DVD's it looks great, especially in the 16:9 enhanced mode. I've turned the brightness up a bit since i do watch a lot of broadcast tv. but on the other hand... you always want to protect against burn-in. So far so good. Now i've got to work on the sound system

Just bit on one of these, good to see you-all are happy with your purchases. Had a Toshiba delivered a couple of weeks ago, but one of the CRT's was broken off the particleboard during assembly/shipping/delivery??? & I had to replace it, kicked in a few $ more & went for the Sony after I talked to a friend in the repair business.

It'll show up on Sunday

My buddy just got a KP61HS30 used, he hooked up the satellite HD and the SD looks better? he got it with no manual or anything just the TV, he tried both input 5 and 6 and the picture is not good at all, is there a setup or something you must do in the menu somewhere? I have not looked at it yet but will go to his place when I get a chance and see if I can help him out, any help would be great. Thanks

For starters use PRO mode only!

Turn contrast way down,it will make the picture sharper, and more realistic,remember..Brighter isnt always better especially in a controlled lighting environment.

To any of you service menu tweakers, to get rid of red push turn RYR and RYB to 15.

Some of you are doing ok by getting a calibration disc, that is good!

I have much more knowledge with sony sets and how to tweak them since i fully tweaked mine myself, and did my own calibration, you can call it a poor mans ISF calibration

Any questions feel free to ask!

I'm very knowledgeable in the service menu with sony sets, and i can tell you from experiance that these things are no way near as good as they can perform without some minor service menu tweaks that make a world of a difference.

Yeah they are plenty bright enough so you should not have any issue's. Oh here is the manual for the set its in pdf format so just print it out. It's about 80 pages is all so not to big.

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model...pl?mdl=KP61HS30

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KP43HT20.PDF

It has a diffrent model # due to this manual is the same for like 5 diffrent models.

KP-43HT20
KP-53HS20
KP-53HS30
KP-61HS20
KP-61HS30

Hope this helps good luck on everything!
