I was looking at buying this same player but don't see where the fancy Faroudja DCDi chip is listed in the specs. Deana

I picked up a CP72 in Jan 2003....took advantageof the $30 rebate and got a great price at J & R......The pic quality is incredible!!!

Admin Joe how do you like it????

It has some annoying "features" The autoplay on some discs cannot but disabled.......plus without the remote control it takes forever to skip discs...........

Though, it is a small price to pay for AWESOME pic quality and since the RP82 is ancient history....we have no choice....

Have you had any pausing during play back....I think it is the layer switching issue that I have read about?

I like it as well. The skip disk functions and disk change functions are inadequate, but otherwise its has great pic quality.

Just arrived home to find my Panasonic CP72 had been delivered. Can't wait to hook it up and test it out. Hoping I don't have any problems with it but will re-check a thread I read and test it out for any problems. I think I got a pretty good deal @ Crutchfield, on sale 20.00 off, then 20.00 off referral code from my husbands friend @ work, and found yet another discount by paying with my Mastercard for another 20.00 off and will send off for the 30.00 rebate making it about 170.00 and some change. Since the RP82 is not available, I thought this was close to the next best thing (except the Denon 1600, I think, all these model numbers are spinning in my head) according to the Shootout, which I know those things aren't to be taken as gospel, but for an amatuer like myself, they sure come in handy when trying to find quality equipment at a price I can live with. I think the CP72 did quite well in their test and the disk changing and skip functions aren't as high on my list of priorities as a superb picture!

Woo Hoo! I'm slowly but surely getting my home theater setup together

I purchased this player a while ago from CC. I have been very happy with the picture quality. I have to be very careful with the disks as any smudges, scratches, or dust will mess up the picture (always at the worst moment). Since I have been making sure to clean the rentals before putting them in the player and making sure all the dust has been blown out of the tray it has not been a big problem.

Brooklyn, I think you are right about the layer change pause. I started watching after your post in a previous thread. It always seems to pause about the middle of the movie. Seems the people that make these DVDs try to put the change at the end of a scene at least.

A great player over all I like having a changer, esp nice when watching LOTR-EE. I don't have to get up to change disks.
