DVI cable length
I found out the hard way that the spec for DVI cables and signals is about 9-10 feet. I have found a DVI repeated for around $400 but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a cheaper way to extend their DVI cable length. I need about 18 feet or so.
Thoughts??? |

DVI Length
In the FAQ section is a post on DVI connectors. They show cables as long as 30' ($200). I'm not sure if this is a signal issue or a cable issue since I don't have any experience. Any feedback would be appreciated.

its both I think
I actually spent some large coin for a 10 meter (roughly 33ft)
dvi cable and the signal was extemely garbled...went thru some test with a friend and the cable was ok....it think its a dvi spec issue. |

Many years ago I had a TV hooked up from my VCR via composite video cable 25' long. Everything worked fine. Bought an new receiver and the composite connection no longer worked. Hooked the cable back up to the VCR and it worked. Hmmmmm, must be the receiver since the cable worked B4. Well, not really, the new receiver just didn't have quite as strong a video signal as the VCR. As soon as I connected a 6' cable everything worked. I bought a better 25' cable and everything worked. So, the receiver was "not as powerful on video signal" and the cable had too much signal loss. You're right, sometimes it's both and damned if I'm not proud of when I finally diagnosed the problem with the new receiver. None of the people at the store I bought the receiver from, or the tech people at Yamaha, could help me, but I sure told them when I solved the problem... Diagnosing one problem is one thing, diagnosing two is downright difficult.
