I have a brand new PT-47WX42 that was dlivered about 4 hours ago, I have alread gone through Avia calibration and love it even with my crappy cablevision feed. Unfortunately I can not get my old (about 7 years or so) Pannasonic DVD-A310 to work via the Component Inputs on the Monitor. I have never used them before so it is possible that there is an issue with the DVD player, but I was wondering, do the component inputs only support 480P or higher but not 480i on the monitor? I looked through the manuals for both devices and see nothing even remotely close to a solution to this issue. Any assistance would be great.
Thanks |

You may want to clean the component video outputs on the back of that old player with a Q-tip and some iso-propyl alcohol to clean off any grunge, twist the cables on and try again.
If there are any mechanical switches on the back of the player, move them back and forth a few times to make sure you've got contact. Connect the unit directly to the TV to ensure that you don't have any other issues, you can also try any old RCA cables to make sure the problem is not with the cables. Just don't mix up the colours. Make sure the TV is turned to the right input.

It will only display 480p or 1080i

Thanks for the help! With a little bit of nail polish remover (no alchohol besides vodka in my house) I got the component cables working. I could actually feel the garbage that was on the connectors come off while I used the Q-Tips on it.

And thank you for the feedback. It makes me smile when I help someone.
Goes to show that sometimes, it's the "easy" answer. Careful with those solvents though. I believe Nail Polish Remover is acetone.
