Question HD Decoder for 4DTV & DVI, should I buy now or wait? Opinions Please.

I recently purchased a Toshiba 50HDX82 HD
Television (with DVI input) and I have a Motorola
4DTV Digital Side Car on order. I would like to
order the matching 4DTV HDD-200 HD Decoder for my C
band system but unfortunately the HDD-200 doesn’t
have the DVI hookup. While the HDD-200 isn’t
nearly as expensive as my new HD TV it’s still a
sizable investment at around $300 to $500. If the
DVI/HDCP system is implemented within the next
few years I would have a HD decoder that is no
longer of any use? Unless possibly, on the off chance
Motorola might come out with some kind of upgrade
to make the HDD-200 DVI compatible.

Opinions please.

Thank You.

Regards,
Doug

Technology is changing so fast in HD that "a few years" is like a lifetime. Not much need to worry about what's going to happen in a few years because almost whatever you buy today will be obsolete, especially in the area of STB. TVs might be a little different since they're a larger investment.

I used to work at Superstar, and my advice to you is to NOT and I repeat do NOT buy a SIDECAR. It is the biggest piece of CRAP on the earth. I cant tell you how many times customer would call in and we couldnt even get the damn receiver to to download or the unit ID number would never register. If your going to go 4DTV then get the Motorola 922. Dont waste your money on the sidecar its a piece of junk. And trust me when I tell you this, you might want to think about going small dish or Cable in the near future and it aint because I hate C-Band. Its because I worked at Superstar and I guarantee you this C-band and as far as a subscription service could disappear here in the next 2 to 3 yrs. And again I DONT HAVE ANYTHING against C-Band BUTTT Superstar has the majority of the market with about 450,000 customers and NPS, and Satellite receivers has very little left. And believe me when I say this TV Guide here in OK owns Superstar and they are really trying to convert all C-Band subscribers to small dish or get cable. And lets be honest there really isnt a big market for C-band anymore. Its really a dying breed even though it provides so many great channels........
