Confused? Worth it? Please help!
Well all the posts I have been reading about about RP82's and RP62's and after going and reading reviews of these two units I am in a quandary.
Back when I first got my HDTV I was a real noob I just thought all progressive scan DVD players were created equal and that price differences just indicated the amount of features and build quality I never thought that different players gave better pictures than others. Not knowing I got a $99 Samsung P231 Prog Scan DVD. This player got a 7.1 rating on CNET. Now the RP62 and RP82 both get an 8.0. My question is really this: Would I notice an increase in picture quality by upgrading my DVD player to a RP62 or 82? And if I did would this increase be proportionate to the amount of money spent? In other words would it be worth it? Or would the improvement be so small as to not even really be noticeable execpt to the extremely fussy or picky individual (which I'm not) Or should I save my pennies and wait for the next big thing in DVD players?

Yu may not be able to even find a RP82 or RP 62 except for E-bay. Both are discontued models. The Xp-30 or XP50 are identical in performance. If you do find a RP62 make sure it DOES NOT have B in the serial number. Those with the B are identical to the S35.
In wich case your Samsung nay be juast a good.

Sharper Image has the XP30 listed on their online site. It is coded as PA500 on the site but I got the box yesterday and it is the XP30.

Well they are available thru ebay and some sellars online have them but I figure the cheapest I could could snag either an RP62 or 82 including shipping is probaly around the $200 mark and probably more. So my question is would I see $200 worth of improvement in my DVD movies or should I just stick with what I got and wait till the next best thing in DVD players comes out?

I just bought the XP50 with Receiver in a package deal - was 10 bucks more than just the DVD-player so worth it since I didn't have a receiver. The reason I bought it is because I was running my dvd's through my P2. If I had had a DVD-player that was better I would have waited for more options on DVD-players with DVI and for the HD-DVD players to get out on the market. I realize that the HD players are going to be way expensive, but they will lower the price on a good DVD player.
The picture on the XP50 is great - absolutely great, but without knowing how your picture looks or how your budget is how can anyone tell if the upgrade is worth it. If you aren't happy with your current dvd-player get the xp30 / 50 - XP50 is the newer version of RP82 but cheaper and the XP30 is the same (pretty much) except for lacking DVD-A. All the models are discountinued but as you say "available". If you find the rp82 for 200 bucks then buy it and sell it on ebay where it goes for over 300. I got the XP50 with receiver on buy.com for $275, but it is higher now. I have no clue on the rp62

There is no way of telling without a side by side comparison. If you are happy with the picture you have now keep the SAMSUNG. You will see a difference with the Xp30,Xp50, and Rp82 but your are talking 400-500 dollars not 200. Since you are not picky just hang in till the next big thing comes out.
