During my weekly visit to my favorite place to buy A/V equipment I looked into the new 'Projector Room' they just built. Three walls with 4 screens varying from 6' to 13.5' in size. Four projectors of course (one big one to be installed).

Gentlemen, I do know what the next generation of my home theater will be. In the following link look at the spec on the TDP-MT8U, especially the inputs. I'll just paste them here

Toshiba Front Projectors

The room was not completely darkened, about where I keep my HT room, the picture on a 13.5' screen was brilliant, crisp etc.

We are getting down to some very tough choices here. Is it going to be the Harley-Davidson FXDWG when I retire or the projector. I'll just do the 'man' thing and get both (along with the divorce) .

Retail is 10k but its around 5.5k on the internet ( sounds too low). Who knows what will be out there in a year or two. The prices will continue to come down as they did on the RPTV's.

There are many high quality projectors, I just happen to be partial to the Toshiba's.

I have a Sony VPL-HS10 in my HT at this point and use a 12ft screen ... outstanding picture ... i think that projectors provide the bigest bang for your HT buck.

What brand is your screen? Pros/cons about it. Any lessons learned?

Just looking around, the screen in the link looks nice. I'm learning so I don't know if it is good or what.

Fixed Wall Screen

I haven't had a chance to go back to my A/V store and get educated on screens. They have one that is in the ceiling and electric. The four others are fixed.

Let me tell you first off that I am a cheap ******* .... having said
that I compared a lot of screens ... including seemless ultra
white photographic paper. believe it or not, the photo paper is as good as or better than most screens with a gain of between 0.9 and 1.0. and a LOT less money. The performance of some expensive high contrast screens was better, no doubt, but on one hand I have a roll of 10ft wide photo paper that
1. hangs from the ceiling but cannot be frame mounted
2. provides an excellent picture
3. can be replaced in about 3 minutes if it gets dirty
4. costs about $65.00 !!!!

on the other hand I have a 10 ft wide high contrast state of the art screen that
1, hangs from the ceiling or CAN be frame mounted
2. provides an excellent picture that is SLIGHTLY better than paper.
3. cannot be replaced but can be carefully cleaned if you buy the right screen material
4. costs about $65.00 X 27 or just under $1800

you can probably figure out which way I went...

If you liked that projector look at the
Knoll HD-272 Same projector with a much better lense (carl Weise). I just put one in and the HD content and DVD are sharper and clearer than anything I have ever seen. All I can do is stair at the picture like a deer in head lights.

Looked the Knoll up on the net. Looks to be made by InFocus also. The InFocus 7200, Tosh MT8U, and the Knoll HD-272 appear to be the same unit, appearance and specs.

Interesting though, the Knoll advertises a 3000 hr lamp life and the InFocus and Tosh say 2000.

All three have the Carl Zeiss lens.

I purchased the Toshiba because that is what my A/V store sells and where I get my discount .

What brand and size screen do you have??

I have a Da-Lite Cinema Contrast fixed wall screen. 106" diagional 52x92. I am very pleased with it. Hi def football is just great. My wife and here family liked the Rose bowl parade yesterday. The images almost look 3-d. I am in an 18x20 room. I just two weeks ago got lucky enough to get dish network and a HI-DEF 811 receiver. (not without problems) but i got it. For sound I am using Dennon 4802-R processer with Klipsch RF-7 Speaker for front RC-7 center RS-7 for surround and rear. with RF-15 for sub. For DVD I am using V Inc. Bravo 1 DVD player it is a progressive scan dvd that will output at 720p and has a DVI output and was only $199 The DVDs look great almost hi-def. They look so good nobody that I have had over could tell that they are not hi-def.

I think ya mean Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss is the Bose brand of lenses and optics. Many of the lenses produced today under the Carl Zeiss label are coming from Korea, China and other producers. A Carl Zeiss of true quality would have originated from a German factory.

Next time one of us hears about a Home Theater convention, or the like, we should spread the word! Wouldn't it be a hoot to go to a convention as one big "HDTVoice" group! Too bad we've just about missed the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas!

The invitation is there, just wish there was a way to make it happen. Some of the guys at work are coming over for the grand opening/SuperBowl party. Our shift works Sundays, 7pm to 7am. I was going to record the SuperBowl in HD with the Dish DVR-921 I was going to get. I don't think the SuperBowl thing is going to happen, no DVR0921 in time.

Anyone who wanted to make a trip to visit would surely be warmly welcomed

Actually, I've been looking at the University of Portland for their Urban Planning/Public Administration graduate program. I won't be graduating for at least a year, though. Right now I'm eyeing this and the University of Illinois at Chicago closely for the same program.

How is the University up there? What about the city life?
