viewsonic PJ501 projector ?

costs about 1500 bucks, any opinions? its an SVGA but can be compressed into a 1024X 768? Any idea on what this means, it also says that i can use it with a 4:3 and a 16:9...is this a real 16:9 or is it something like a 16:9 V compression available on some tube tv's? Will i see black bars when i watch a dvd? This is going to be a dvd/ computer gaming projector. Do you guys have suggestions for a projector in a similar price range (below 1500) with component video inputs? Also will this thing look clear if i project about 12 feet away?

Although this unit will accept HD signals, all 16x9 HD programming will be displayed at 450P (projector is 800 x 600). Since it's fixed pixel, there's nothing that can be done to improve resolution.

The "compression" is BS.

See the FAQ post on Types of HDTV. The issue is also discussed there, under projectors.

True HD projectors cost a lot more.

450P.......if i watch the screen from about 16 feet away, would it look decent? or is there a projector that costs a little bit more that could do better. Like i said again, the viewsonic had component video and 1500 lumens, the only one that came close was the gateway projector, but that only had 1000 lumens
