I just bought a panasonic HDD/DVD recorder and spent severel unproductive hours trying to get it to work. I was trying to get it to record from a Hughes HD SAT Receiver. I could get it to record the audio but not the video from the HD SAT Receiver. After many attempts in both HD & SD output from the HD SAT Receiver , I gave up and called Hughes. The tech support guy from Hughes told me that none of the Hughes receivers were compatable with HDD or DVD recorders. My question is has anyone else had this problem, and if so do you know of any HD recievers that will work with a HDD or DVD recorder?

I assume you know that you can't record true HD with a DVD recorder. I also assume you're using an S-video connection? I see no reason why it shouldn't work, although that combination of Sat/DVD recorder is new to me.

What I bought was a panasonic dmr-e80h hdd/dvd-ram recorder . What I was trying to do is use it like a vcr . I took the e80's componet outs to my yamaha a/v reciever, and the s-vid out from the hughes sat reciever to the in on the e80. I also tried this with the e80's composit outs with no luck either. This is the same set up I used with a s-vhs vcr and it worked like a charm. My hughes sat rec has the abilty to switch from hd to sd for recording . I hope this clears up my last post.

Go from the STB directly to the recorder. My Onkyo receiver wouldn't let me copy a laser disc to VCR. I had to go directly from the laser disc to the VCR. There was no copy protection involved either.
